Alright, for those who don't know, these are epic keyboards. They are capable of many feats, one being macros. I've been looking into this for synthing, but I do not want to get banned over it. A key feature is you an input a command, say Enter>2sec wait, and then hit "Toggle" to indefinitely loop it. Another feature is making it where holding down said macro keeps doing that, instead of having to spam enter a lot.

Now I know if I put it on toggle, go to bed, etc that's botting, banned etc. My question is, what If I'm reading a book, homework, etc and I just want that macro to save me a little effort, and I'm AT the keyboard, talking in ls, while doing it. Is that banworthy? I'm not doing this, I just wondered if I could.

If that is banworthy, what about holding down the button, is that acceptable?

And lastly, and I'm just curious, if you're active on ls, chat, etc, and synthing, how would anyone know you're doing it?

I feel dirty for even asking this, as I'll prolly never do it (I hate cheating), but it has crossed my mind...

Being at the keyboard doesn't really mean anything. Lots of players use cheating tools (famous pos hack) while they are playing. Its basically whether or not you are getting around the intended design of the game.

That said, SE's intended design for crafting seems to be for you to get so bored you fall asleep on the keyboard and guess what? You're crafting in your sleep.

If you're at your keyboard you should be fine. Assuming crafting hasn't been drastically changed lately (haven't played in a few months), you can run a looping crafting macro. I used to do this while making dinner or tidying up my place; it's a great time saver.

In order to verify botting activity before banning players, the Special Task Force in FFXI would send you a /tell to confirm you were not at your keyboard.

While I don't think FFXIV has been actively seeking out botters at this time, if you are paying enough attention to the game to see and /reply to one of these tells, you should be just fine.

That said, clearly the official answer is that using thrid party tools to play FFXIV for you is not allowed.

Thing is, the board isn't really a third party tool, but it does the same. Thing is, I read while spamming enter, so... I'd miss a /tell from the task force while synthing without cheating, would they ban me for that? that's flawed man ; ;. Then again, I didn't read while synthing on xi...

I can't help it, they made synthing so boring on this game, i like to read or play on my ipod while mashing enter lol.

Actually- The keyboard is a third party tool.

It's really no different than a "normal" keyboard with a software seperatly installed to run a repetitve macro on your PC. The software is just integrated into the keyboard.

Now if you could just program the keyboard to reply "ALT+R" <insert random greeting here> to all /tells

If the only thing they do is send a /tell to confirm your "away" then that is utterly rediculous. I watch TV while crafting and don't neccessarily watch or care who is trying to talk to me while i'm crafting.

About that keyboard, i don't really care. You bought the keyboard for the ability to do that, and SE can't ban these products from being sold so they can't ban you for that. If you want to get technical any keyboard is a third party tool. Anyway it's not like you actively searched out an illegal prgram to do it.

The only thing i consider "cheating" is claim bots or movement hacks ect. if someone wants to save time by having a keyboard repeat macros more power to them. I don't do this by the way because i prefer not to.

turbo controller is ok and this isnt... yea se needs to say it is illegal or nobody is gonna care. most people probably wouldnt care if they got banned anyways. Cant make a pt right now, cant get anyone to do anything, hmm guess im stuck hitting enter mindlessly all night.

at this point in time there's no way for them to know the difference between you using keyboard macros to do crafting or you crafting yourself. Its all input commands from the same source as far as the game concerned and doesn't show them a distinct difference between keyboard macro and human player hitting keys. so is it legal?... maybe not. Will you get caught?... not likely.

Will people stop bringing up the word "illegal" or "legality" as it has no bearing on what you do in-game. You can't be sued, you won't go to jail and you can still cross international borders.

Against TOS? Whatever SE say is, well... IS. ^^

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

They did a contest in XI and the prize was a G11 or whatever so they approve of the use of the keyboard(s).

I know I had my gear/skill swap macros set to my G-Keys to save space on my macro bar.

When this game starts to stabilize more I'll be using my G-15 for exactly the same. Doubt I'd ever use it to loop crafting, but you never know.
