I won't post the details as there are several tables, but the general gist is:

In 1.19 dying an item would change the stats and add class restrictions. However a lot of players weren't happy with being forced to wear one colour for optimum results.

In 1.20 the dying process will become 3 step;
1) Create the item you want
2) Treat (re-synth) the item to gain the attriibutes you want (e.g. +Piety or + Mind)
3) Dye the treated item to the colour you want to wear

Note that you can only dye an item once. Though there are plans in 2.0 to be able to dye a single item multiple times

---

I am not sure if dyeing is a final process, i.e. once you dye an item it can't be treated to get bonus stats.

What about dying multiple colour on the same item one time? Like Green Trim and Red Base with Grey Decoration?

So glad to read this. I never thought color should = stats. Color should be cosmetic only. Stats should be by item type plus enhancements like materia.

Lol yeah, I know this is a fantasy game and perhaps the dye was magic or something, but it didn't make sense that if I dye a Linen Coatee blue, it suddenly bestowed upon its wearer Control: +8.

Blue is well known to be a color of calm, calm is known to put one in control of ones self and thus enhancing their abilities... at least that's what they tell me every time I get locked in the psyche ward and tossed i the blue room.

That would mean that if I wore red I'd become stronger.

Hopefully we can clear up a few of the concerns that came up after the announcement was made.

In regards to dyeing HQ gear and materia-melded gear, dyeing these items will have no adverse affect on their stats. If you dye a +3 gear item, you’ll produce the same +3 gear but in a different color. If you dye gear with materia melded to it, you will have the same gear with the same materia but in a different color.

To dye equipment, simply select the materials and the desired dye from the synthesis menu. Once you begin synthesizing, the synthesis process will be skipped, and dyeing will succeed 100% of the time.

Regarding player requests to have NPCs handle dyeing equipment, we plan on allowing NPCs to dye equipment basic colors and crafters to dye equipment rare colors in version 2.0.

To answer questions we've seen pop up. You won't be required to use HQ dye to dye an HQ piece of gear. NQ/HQ dye will be able to be used in both instances.

anddddd

What will happen to the stats of the currently dyed gear in 1.20?

Stats will remain the same as they are currently.
