From the Lodestone forums:

Greetings, fellow adventurers!

In the last letter from the producer, Yoshida has mentioned about "Dark Moogle Battle (name tentative)" and we are sure that many of you are psyched to hear more about it. Today, we have some news for you. The name "Dark Moogle Battle" has been changed and it will be called "Good King Moggle Mog XII"!

Yes, Moggle Mog XII, the "Good King", is what you will face next. We are sure that many of you are having lots of questions in your mind right now but please wait until the details are revealed in the upcoming topics. For today, we would like to give you a sneakpeek on the loots that "Good King Moggle Mog XII" will bring!

Good King Moggle Mog XII Loot

Also just to note that the adjustment has been made to the video thumbnail so that the weapons won't be shown. So the choice on whether to watch this sneakpeek or wait until they become your possession is all up to you.

the ruinic scroll on the axe is seriously cool!

the pugilist weapon... seriously, if you want us punching moogles all day, give us a dummy moogle in the 3 cities, otherwise, the boxing gloves could've been done better.

Is anyone else upset that all the loot is weapons again?! I just got my ifrit gear now I already have to replace it? The loot should have been some kind of armor

Was hoping for some sort of armor and weapons mix this time around. With the concept art they had shown, I thought maybe Moogle would be one batch of gear + armor and Garuda would be the rest of the weapons + more armor. I hope at least some of the Ifrit weapons retain their BIS rank to still make the fight worthwhile.

I love the sword, the H2H is cute and cool and the same time, the axe is interesting... but the rest seem almost afterthought (ok not much you can do with a want and a stave), but the bow and lance particularly seem like the moogle was just tacked on... Having said that, I think I'll try to get them all since I'm a moogle-fiend.

Dear gods, those look terrible. I couldn't be more disappointed with the designs; the game looks like it's being designed by an inexperienced (or maybe just foolish) free-to-play team now, bent on delivering one nonsensical novelty after another to impress people long enough to pay for one more month. I can hear their thought process echo through the items already:

"zomg make a moogle sword with two blades and it like glows in the dark, and then you can have moogle plushies pop out of your hands and a moogle dance on top of your staff rofl!"

I don't get it, is the goal to try and gradually top other MMORPG's outlandish and jarring selection of senseless thematic equipment? I hope it is, because at least then they're working as intended.

As a final note, I absolutely loved the unintended contrast between the music and what was displayed on the screen, though, because to me these things spell anything but victory. XD

Have to admit, there's very little you can actually do when it comes to a Moogle motif. While yes, the PUG weapon looks cute, it looks more like a seasonal event reward rather than a drop from a raid boss. >.>;

Geez louise, guys. It's a Dark Moogle fight. I was expecting the gear involved to be lighthearted.

Anywho, I really want that sword. The Pugilist H2H did make me laugh quite a bit.

I don't think the moogle weapon's will replace Ifrit's, probably will be an alternative to Ifrit's weapons. Same base DMG, different bonus stats.

Well good health to them, odds are very high that the Moogle weapons will be an alternative more so then an upgrade. SE still wants people to do Ifrit, even after Moogle is out. Ifrit weapons focus on A.P. magical and physical. Moog weapons will focus on a different affect. It would be counter productive for SE if Ifrit's weapons got junked after moogle's are out.

The axe is done well, I think. Very nice engraving, with those bat-like moogle wings on the back, and that little red crown on top. They actually incorporated the moogle motif while making it look refined. The rest just look like some lighthearted event items.

Disappointing considering that this is their last pitch before asking us to pay again. This isn't what I would put out there when I'm asking people to take my game seriously. I get that it's a Moogle fight, but no one was holding a weapon with a moogle taped on it (one can only hope), forcing them to choose this as the content everyone will rush to do for 1.20. Perhaps this was sort of set in stone before they decided on when to charge us again, but a lack of foresight isn't going to win them any subscriptions.

I've seen a lot of people concerned at how quickly Ifrit weapons may become obsolete. This shouldn't be any surprise - I believe their plan was to have turnover on items every few months. NMs and Dzemael Darkhold almost seem like distant memories aleady, don't they?

Edit - the Teen rating with "alcohol reference, animated blood, language, suggestive themes, and violence" was a pretty funny precursor to the plush toy weapons though, gotta give them that.

Yeah, a bit of subtlety would have gone a long way. Instead of a staff with an entire spinning moogle on top of it (probably the same moogle that's re-purposed to be slapped on the other weapons), how about a staff with a small pom-pom on top? Instead of a bow with an extremely out-of-place moogle stuck to it, why not have part of the limb look like a thin wing? Instead of strapping giant, jiggling moogle faces to your cesti, why not make them less cartoonish moogle paws as hand-to-hand weapons?

I think they had a moogle model sitting there in the .dats and they found that the easiest way to fit the theme was to paste it on top of things, hood ornament style. The axe was designed either by a seperate person or in more than five minutes, and stands out as non-event-gear because of that.

Middle English accent, pre-vowel-shift; it works.

Not sure that's what the writer had in mind, though.

I don't get the complaints. This is clearly meant to be stupid and fun, a diversion, not serious endgame. I realize that FFXIV is pretty starved for solid content, but I can still accept that not everything new has to be über-serious all the time.

I guess it comes down to people wanting more than "stupid diversions" after so many years of development, more than a "stupid diversion" to entice people to pay monthly.

And, after all, slaughtering this random moogle is just as "end game" as Ifrit, and it's the closest thing to end game FFXIV has, and probably will have, for quite a while. If this were a seasonal event, it would be judged as such, but it's so much more than that: it is the precedence for high-level gear, it's supposed to make people want to pay, it's the only other choice for something to do at the level cap, and, really, it shows which direction the game is moving.

Well, that's kind of my point. People are evaluating this as if it's endgame, when I think it's really just meant to be a "seasonal event" that never goes away. It's a pretty big assumption from what we've seen so far that this is meant to be an event that is "something to do at the level cap" rather than a silly and amusing diversion.

People always judge pre-patch teasers as if the content we've seen is somehow preventing us from getting other content. "We wanted new endgame, and they're giving us bells??!?" We need a lot more evidence before we can even remotely conclude that here. Yes, this event took programming hours that could have been spent on other fixes and content, but the idea that no resources at all are allowed to be spent on fun diversions seems like an awfully sour perspective on the game.

Well, let's just hope that since the weapons look ridiculously stupide, that the stats are worth it?...Even if they are worth it...I can't see myself working that content to give my pugilist a squeaky looking toy that is meant for my 2 year old toddler or a dog...just sayin....

Not entirely sure if this would be the case here, but I know that Yoshi said some content would be exclusive to pre-v2.0. If this set of weapons is, then I think it is a great addition. A nice show-off piece to hold on to for the up coming years. Now if only I could get a Moogle hat to go with that staff... :3

I had a thought... well 2 about the PGL moogle-weapon

1. If every hit the left said Kup! and the right said Po!
2. If every time you hit they made a silly squeaky noise

Not sure it would improve them for some, but for me it would put them so far out into absurd land that they'd be that much more enjoyable... like a bad/silly anime you don't want to admit to your friends that you love.

Just like "My Little Pony", everyone has seen at least one episode. But most would not confess to it, even if in front of a firing squad. Seriously though the Prime Battle weapon skin as they are will probably be one of the things that will be only pre 2.0. Who know maybe all drops after 2.0 will have a completely different skin.
