I have been playing since day one, many of my friends did as well but then stopped playing due to the lack of... you guys know what. I know many people who quit and they refuse to play the game at all. How do you think SE is going to get those players back? How are they going to take the bad name out and put the good name in, that's of course if the game gets better.

The same way they got some fools to pay for the development of their MMO, they'll show you some pretty pictures, some concept PDF file, and there you go, welcome 5million subs XD!

If you're talking about 2.0, its pretty obvious that they are planning on promoting it like FFXIV 1.0 never happened. They will tout a new game, new PS3 release, hold their ears and shout 'LALALA' if anyone tries to mention the past two years. Not a bad plan, I guess.

Yoshida has said that the current plan is to debute a trailer of 2.0 at E3. I reckon from then on it it'll be a matter of "contrast and compare."

Ohmygosh a pretty trailer, of course! But do they really think that will be enough? I mean, SE is not exactly a credible source when it comes to their own games, especially not FFXIV. How can they expect everyone to believe them this time given what happened last time? XD

I'll just wait until the year after the trailer is shown, when we can all ask, "Remember when they showed X in the trailer? What happened to that?" like we got to do with every piece of FFXIV-related media pre-FFXIV's release.

Either way, we'll see - and I'll be right here on the forums trolling discussing the finer points of a video game with you people! (*_* )/

Although mostly ignored, they will also have the more honest people that have been here through the whole thing that can attest first hand about the changes and how they affected the game. Anyone who has played the last year can vouch for the fact that the game has been improved by leaps and bounds. (not saying its done of course, but it is miles better)

You might be surprised by the effect of having even a small community of players who can back the word of a corporation. Regardless of how (un)biased they may or may not be.

I dont know if they are going to do a bunch of comparisons, I'm not sure that most people care how much better it got, they care about how good it is. SE doesn't really have a great reputation of games living up to their trailers either, so I don't think that alone'll get them enough attention. I think they should go ahead and do what they didn't really do when 14 came out the first time, get the name out there, get the ads out, and try and express what they did well. And if all possible, not try and blow it out of proportion like they've done in the past

At least, thats how they should try and promote. how they most likely will promote is just a pretty trailer we'll see slightly different cuts of at various game shows, a bunch of hype quotes from the devs, and a few popups on game sites the week before its released.

Yoshida said that the trailer for 2.0 will show more gameplay and aspects true to FFXIV rather than showing some CG cutscenes.

Tanaka's team seemed to like to show all kinds of interesting stuff in a trailer. None of which makes it into the game for years (if ever). I'm sure you all remember the CG with the Roegadyn/Hyur/Lalafell fighting that Marlboro... Anyway, this isn't evident from just FFXIV, either. The 2007 FFXI: Wings of the Goddess trailer shows it too. The music they used didn't show up in the game ever, and the Atomos zones didn't get implemented until 2010.

As long as the new team is actually honest and doesn't do false advertising...

I don't know how hard it would be, but they should rename the game.
Give it a fresh new title like - FFXIV Yoshi Edition Smiley: sly or FFXIV-2...
rework the title make it feel fresh.

I agree, that they should rename it. I don't think it should've been named Final Fantasy XIV in the first place.

Call it Final Fantasy Online, then give it a subtitle or something. They should then rename Final Fantasy Versus XIII to Final Fantasy XIV for the PS3... if that game ever comes out.

While they're at it, how about a single player game based on the world of FF11... called Final Fantasy XI. Make it like an HD collection for the PS3/360 or put it on the Vita.

But the FFXI trailer shows in-game footage, it shows actual parts of the game and gameplay mechanics, and it did advertise what was ultimately put into the game. Thus it's a different matter altogether from a CG trailer can never show what's actually in the game.

Also, you're really complaining that the music track on a trailer wasn't used in the game? They weren't advertising for a concert, you know. o_O

I don't think you'll see any promotion other than "XIV is free for a month, try it". Too risky. They've gotta make **** sure that 2.0 will be successful before they plug a failed re-launch. Also have to consider that by then there will be half a dozen other new MMOs unleashed on the masses. I don't envy SE right now...
