I held off due to the initial troubling issues that arose prior to the release of FFXIV. I'm curious now if they've fixed the game, I've read through a lot of the changes but how does it actually play?

One issue brought up by another poster somewhere was that the game is essentially unfun to level so you grab a PL hit max and then beat the endgame and quit within a week or so. Is that a valid statement?

The few folks I know that bother to have RNG at 75 these days still do uber amounts of damage . . . What the **** kind of buffs do you want? Maybe a target crosshairs to help caclulate the sweet spot better?

Pretty much. They have addressed many of the bugs, however, on the official forums, you can even see players are starting to get bored. There is an actual thread right now on the lodestone forums titled "bored" because of the lack of fun the content is. There are a few dungeons to do...however people seem to be agitated due to the drop rate of the Ifrit dungeon. There are sidequests to do, but from the ones I've done, I just don't find interesting or really add too much value to the game. I look at the side quests, or at least the ones I've done as "busy" content...just content to keep one busy, and the ones I've done don't seem to be worth doing due to the lack of a reward I've gotten (a few exp points here a few there...not a lot).

IDK what people think of the chocobo escorts...I haven't done them, so I don't have an opinion on them. It just seems after you have exhausted what content there is to do, there is nothing left to do but grind grind grind.

And it seems that many aren't too impressed with the main scenario, or they say it doesn't seem connected...or you get lost due to things not connecting...IDK that's just what I have read.

If I were you, if you want to try the game out, I'd hold off until next year when the entire thing is revamped. I would hate for someone else to play, get sick of it so quick and never return :/

Currently the game is very cheap. It's only around $20 on amazon and you get a free month to explore the game. I'd suggest just getting the game and trying it out. If you decide it's not to your liking, you can always come back next year when they release 2.0. Yes, the main bulk of what to do is to grind grind grind your jobs to 50. For new players who have been starting the game recently, they have been really enjoying the game. They find that there is a lot more to do now than there was when the game was first released. It sounds like the opinions that have been mentioned so in this thread have been about players who have been playing for a long time and have completed most of the things to do in the game. I will say that when you do side quest after side quest, you'll probably get bored because most of them involve running back and forth from place to place killing easy mobs. The best way to enjoy it all is to do it at a slow pace and do quests as you grind your jobs. It's hard to really give you an idea of what you are wanting since I've been playing it since launch. The game is playable, but for players who have been around since the beginning, they are getting bored since they are getting to the point that all their jobs are reaching max level and they have completed all there is to do in the game so far. From the responses I've read from the new players joining my LS's, they say that they are having fun and enjoying the game so far.

I think the game is really good already. I spent most of my evenings playing it. I am really casual so I am not running out of content (With casual I mean I play maybe 10-15h per week).

With 1.2 coming out there should be enough content to be happy with until 2.0 comes out for new players. If you play correctly and not PL all the way to 50 there is enough to do. The main story line gives you a lot of exp and gil. Each part of the quest you need to be a certain lvl to do. Lvl 5,10,20, 25 ext... Just random numbers I tossed out. Grind to those lvls and then do the quest at the appropriated lvl. Most of the time you will get close to 1 full lvl for completing them, plus later ones give you over 100k gil.

I'm still having fun. I leveled 2 DoM classes to 50 without PL and it was fun (to me) and am working on my 40 Archer now so I can have a Bard. I did lots of guildleves, faction leves, grinding. I did all this solo, duo, and in a group. I did quests, class quests (many have really fun stories) Grand Company quests, and main scenario quests. Got my personal chocobo. I did behest and chocobo escort. Explored the world and saw many sights and met many people. Stood around in town and chatted, bought, sold, traded. I crafted and gathered. Hunted NM and killed for coffer keys.

At 25 you have "The Thousand Maws of Toto Rak" and "baby" Ifrit. Then at 45 you have "The Dzemael Darkhold" and Ifrit.

You CAN get all your DoW and DoM jobs PL to 50 and craft/gather bot those to 50... But you don't have to. If you prefer you can take it slow, or at least not hyperfast.

I would suggest making an effort to find people who enjoy the same things as you and get the game and join their server. A good Linkshell of like minded people can make or break this game for you.

Yes the game still has problems, and is lacking in content throughout. 1.20 looks to have good additions and 1.21 we get jobs.

I mainly played and thoroughly enjoyed Samurai and Dragoon in FFXI. What's the chances they'll release those jobs?

Is there a CST server?

I remember there being 3 starter towns or something along those lines,
1. do they each have their own storylines
2. Can you change countries?
3. Did the dieties every get expanded to do anything depending on what you choose?
4. Lancer: great class, or greatest class?

I played steady for about 4 months, but there really isn't that much to do.
I'll probably pop in again to see how the Jobs are, but I don't expect to be playing seriously again until Ver. 2.0

1. They each have their own storylines, but with the revamping of 2.0, they may not exist as they do now come PS3 release so you may need to play before then if you want to experience them.
2. You can't change countries as far as which one you chose from the beginning, but you can of course visit all 3 of them and do their quests.
3. No, the dieties aren't really mentioned aside from some questgivers and don't tie into any powers or traits from what we know.
4. Lancer is win.

Solo, perhaps this is true. I know it was like this for me back at release.

I came back in October and was lucky enough to find a large, active, friendly and skilled linkshell.

If you've got good company and like-minded friends, there is definitely plenty to do to have fun.
