PS3 Release Date 12/31/2011??????Follow

#1 Dec 20 2011 at 10:31 PM Rating: Default
I recently went to best buy and asked if I could pre order the ps3 version of final fantasy 14. The tech guy, who knew exactly what I was talking about, looked it up on the store computer and low and behold, I could pre order the game, and I did, and the release date was 12/31/2011. I am sure of this, and it says so on my pre-order ticket. I cannot find confirmation of this date anywhere, and I half doubt it's correct, but I also know they weren't planning to release the ps3 version until the free trial period was over and they would start charging fees, which is around the same time. I also remember one of the devs being quoted as saying the ps3 version would be released AT ALL COSTS. Sounds like a measure they're taking to keep the game alive. Either scenario looks plausible. Can someone confirm this new date? Anyone else seen this? Any ideas? o_O

PS3 version will not be released any time soon, let alone the end of this month. All signs indicate that it will be released alongside the relaunch of the game after version 2.0 is implemented sometime later on next year.

Yes I read that, but it was also thought that the free trial period would end around the same time as 2.0 release, later next year. But it's ending around the same time as the date I was given on pre order. It's not too far of a stretch considering the game was supposed to be released in march earlier this year. Everyone knows the console version will save the game, I think the devs know this too. =/

You are confused, there are actually two different free trial periods. One is the extended which will end 06/01/2012 and one will be around 1 month right when 2.0 is released. Just look at the pdf again.

I also saw where it's possible to buy a pre owned ps3 copy of the game. And it seems nobody has a clue as to when it's going to be released. Amazon has it as december 2012. I read somewhere it'll be released Q3 of next year. Another said Q4 next year. I also read sometime in february, and it was supposed to be released march earlier this year. I guess I'm asking if the date I received is even possible, no matter how small the possibility. Seems to me some signs point to yes.

To see the current plans for release dates and stuff, read these 4 .pdf files. You'll get an estimate of when these things will be released. These would be the absolutely earliest though. I'd expect these times will be delayed due to the delays of each patch coming out on the way there. The release date best buy has is just a place holder. They have no clue when it will be released. They just have to have a date there. I'd recommend keeping your receipt for the next year or go back and cancel it. PC users will have another free month when they release the ver. 2.0 and then when that is over is when they will release the ps3 version. This will be VERY late 2012 or early 2013.

Here's the link to those .pdf files.

Usually date entered as last day of the year is when they do not know the real release date. Will probably be updated to 12/31/2012 soon! Would be sad to release a game on a day where everything is closed! Not that many people would want to buy it anyways ;)

I hope you didn't put too much money down on that pre-order. You've got a loooong wait ahead of ya.
Really, though check out those PDF files about the FFXIV time line.
I don't tend to be a 'white knight' but, I'm betting it'll be pretty accurate.

I can't help but wonder how many people pre-ordered Duke Nukem Forever only to wait 12 years for it to finally be released. It sucks that big box retailers take advantage of uninformed customers like this guy but as they say "buyer beware".

Now the question is whether FFXIV will be able to garner the ~5/10 that Duke Nukem Forever managed to pull from its decade of development.

What's the chance you pre-ordered XIII-2? Maybe the salesman was bad at math...

XIII-2 is 1/31/2012, and it should be common knowledge for anyone who considers themselves a gamer that any game with a release date of the last day of the year is generally a placeholder. I work at a Best Buy, and it makes me sad how stupid some of the people they've been hiring the last year or so across the company really are. The company is following the exact blueprint of how Circuit City went out of business a few years ago.

Placeholder date. I would bet that the best case scenario is it will launch with 2.0

According to the .pdf they released, the PS3 beta is scheduled to start around the same time that the client for 2.0 is made available. I'm not sure why they aren't going to(or at least considering) launch at the same time, but PS3 I would estimate won't hit until Feb/Mar 2013.

Broader lesson with release dates on video games, movies, whatnot: Do not trust release dates of 12/31 or 1/1. They are often ambiguous placeholders, just to put something in there. It's very rare for something to get released on either day.

Aww I miss circuit city. I bought my first PC there when I was like 14 with money I saved all year from mowing lawns and other misc. yard work.

In 4 days, I'll come back just to laugh my *** off at you for actually pre-ordering a non-existent product.

I've learned to be wary of sales people offering preorders. In early 2011, Gamestop gave me a chance to put down $5 on D3 which they had said would be released around Thanksgiving of 2011. Anything to get a sale I guess.

Guy I met couple weeks ago works at game stop and told me they have a quota on pre orders and they will lie or make **** up in order to get people to put $5 down on a pre order.

I pre-ordered my copy of FFXIV for PS3 and it finally arrived today - but, for some reason, my PS3 disc will only work on my PC. Can anyone troubleshoot this?

Yeah, they're usually really pushy about trying to get me to pre-order stuff. That would explain it.

The Internet is the only place where not knowing all of the Internet secrets about video games and the industry can somehow work against you. It's really a sort of perfect opposite of the real world.
