Has there been a definitive answer as to if we will be retaining our character progress after the "new" ffxiv comes out? With all the changes to jobs and the basic foundation of the game I am unsure if there is any benefit to playing the game as is in regards to if it will give people a head start in version 2.0. I have found info about re-customization of physical appearance and names and stuff like that, but not anything about storyline or character development.

Does that even make sense? I duno if I'm making my question clear here, not sure how to really word it lol. Um.....

If I'm a lvl 26 lancer in ffxiv (now) will I start (new) ffxiv as a 26, or will I have to start over?

This one time at FFXIV camp I tried to get a 3 person party going, but just ended up as a Disciple of the Hand.

No you will not have to start over. Yoshi-p has stated numerous times in interviews that he will never erase people advancement or character progress. The benefit to playing now is that you'll be able to experience story events that lead up to version 2.0. These story events will only happen during the time leading up to the release of version 2.0 and thus will not be available after it hits. He has mentioned that he will consider allowing people to change their race, but this is not confirmed as of yet. He is only considering this because they will be releasing male miqote and female rogadyn and so he may give people a chance to change to those races if they so choose. He has mentioned that he would like to implement a way for people to change their hairstyle as they please. This has not been added yet, and hopefully will be added sometime in the future. If you so choose to stop playing now and decide to come back in the future, you can rest assured that your character progress will not be erased or reset. You will only have lost out on quests and story that will be unavailable after version 2.0.

You won't lose your progress, but this is what I think they're going to do in order to not have a game at 2.0's launch where everyone is already top-heavy.

Fact:

Yoshi has said that there's no plans on increasing the level cap past 50 for at least another year.

Reason I think:

They're doing this intentionally so they can raise the level cap on 2.0's release in order to forcibly keep people from "max" level and have everyone leveling up in a fresh game.

I hope the xp requirement is the way it was from 50-75 pre nerft in FFXI. Make us suffer again! I miss it.

If they do this people will start to complain that it's too hard and that it takes too long. Then they'll change it and then people will complain that it's too easy and it should take longer..... Then they'll change it and make it slightly harder. Then people still wont be happy and will make threads complaining on zam and tell us why they are quitting. It's an ugly cycle.

Or they can just add a few classes, like those two long-overdue Arcanist and Shepherd. No not commander Shepard.
