Another twelve moons have waxed and waned over Eorzea, and the time is upon us once more when it is determined which of the gods will rise to dominance in the coming year. Aye, the season of Heavensturn is here.

Read on to learn more.

Heavensturn is a celebration that marks twelve passings of the moon in the night sky, and with them, the vigil of each of the Twelve over the realm. It is on this sacred day that one among the gods wins celestial favor, and whose aspect thus exerts the greatest influence over the fate of Eorzea throughout the coming year. Those initiated into the mysteries of the divine are of the belief that this turning will see Althyk, the Keeper, rise above his deific peers.

Innumerable malms away, in the Far East, folk observe something of a different Heavensturn. There, noble beasts take the place of the Twelve, with the dragon said to be the embodiment of Althyk. This serves to explain the large shipment of helms wrought in the creature’s likeness that has recently arrived at Black Rabbit Traders. Rumor holds that these ornate headpieces are meant as gifts to be bestowed upon those adventurers who lend their kind aid in the Winter’s Knell festival...

With the surveyor of change and space and god of time presiding over Eorzea, what could the coming year possibly hold in store for the realm of men?

Event Schedule
Approx. 7:00 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2011 to approx. 7:00 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2012 (PST).

I like this event! Can't wait to grab these helms. I wonder what we will have to do to get them.

Gonna toss this out there, ya'll can flame it as you like.

Choosing Althyk as the coming year's influential deity is a bright flashing neon sign for me that points to a time jump when 2.0 hits. Being the God of Time, with power over change and space, it makes sense for him to be the head honcho this year. We'll be seeing plenty of changes, space itself will be changing with the new areas and the threat of Meteor, and as for time...

If you look at the concept art for 2.0, you can see forests and grasslands where there weren't any before. Whole Garlean base camps and fortresses have been erected in the desert. Parts of Coerthas will become ice-bound and snowy. While obvious that the devs want to change the areas, they need to have a lore-based reason to do so. I'm sure Meteor will play a part in that, and will cause vast destruction, but it takes time for forests to grow, time for areas to be snowbound, and time for whole fortresses to be erected.

It may not be a huge leap forward, but I think that we're going to see some mucking about with time when 2.0 hits. Ever since seeing the concept art, I've felt that way, and now with Althyk presiding over the year, my feeling is even stronger.

You may be on to something. I too was wondering how it will all be explained. If Meteor hits it will fracture the world and create great devastation. But as you say, there is new growth that hopefully will be explained in a way that makes sense.

quite simply a great analysis. Like ff6 the 'end of the world' was but a cut scene in the middle of the game. I hope they're planning something similar here and those who have stayed around to see the whole story will be greatly rewarded with great storyline.

Hey I can dream....

Ah, the good old surveyor of change... and space... and god of time... he's a triple threat.
