I recently got myself one of those new-fangled "high definition" televisions, and figured I'd try a few of my PC games on it. After quickly realizing I needed a controller, I picked up an XBox 360 controller for Windows and realized that this might be a nice opportunity to also try FFXIV the way it had been originally designed to be played.
I must say that FFXIV with a controller is a massive improvement--suddenly the control scheme and menu design makes sense! However, sitting merely 4 or 5 feet away from my 40" Sony makes nearly all of the game text completely unreadable at 1920 x 1080. I know I can change the size of the font of the message and chat windows, but every other piece of text seems to be fixed in size. This obviously won't do for a PS3 release, so I have to imagine that they're going to implement either an entirely new UI for the PS3 (in which case--why did they bother with a controller-oriented UI for the PC?) or a new UI/customizable UI for both platforms.
Is there something I'm missing in the game already that will let me do this? Or is this something they've said they're planning on working on?
As it stands, the game is pretty much unplayable on a 40" TV (which is near the max recommended size for a living room as small as mine) at 1080 simply because of the text size (otherwise it looks fantastic, and is a joy to play with a controller while seated comfortably on my couch).
