Buddy Pass? Questions about starting tooFollow

I'm a FFxi player and I'm hesitant to play FFIV. After some consideration I decided I did want to try the game out since it does not currently have a monthly fee, but because I am using a friends copy for the install I need a buddy pass. Is there anyone here who could hit me up with one?

Aside from that I was also a little curious about how to go about starting. I know there is not a lot of people currently playing. Which starting city has the highest population? Which has the least? Which servers have enough people for the game to be potentially enjoyable? On FFXI my favorite jobs have always been THF, DNC, and BLM. Aside from them I've also played WAR, DRG, SMN, and WHM. What kind of jobs would be a good fit for someone like me?

Monthly Fee = Tomorrow - you and your friend are both going to pay now
Check out "Letter's from the Producer" to read about job direction- it sounds like you play every job but tank or ranged- so don't play gladiator or archer
Ul'dah is the city with the highest population

So what is the monthly fee, then? Does this mean they're updating the system? I had heard the XP system was terrible.

I thought billing began on Jan. 6th.

You should browse the game's official site, they have a list of archived updates that you can examine. Lots of minor things have changed since about thirteen months ago, which seems to be around the time you (and most others) stopped paying attention to the game.

As far as I know, the exp. system has been updated since about a year ago (with randomization taken out, and parties providing some sort of bonus); the problem now is a bizarre combination of powerleveling and lack of content at the level cap.

Billing starts on the 6th. The game will continue to get regular updates as it has since retail launch almost 16 months ago. The "BIG" update (2.0)is still about 10 months to a year away but yes if you want to play they expect you to pay for what amounts to a beta.

You will still get a month free, so for you, billing will start one month after you begin playing.
