Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

The monk WS looks like he's break-dancing

Monk WS is lame in so many ways. Now strap on those idiotic jiggling moogle faces and we have a game that... I'd be embarrassed to recommend even more-so, heh...

Honestly, the style of FFXIV has changed so much recently that I'd have trouble returning unless the gameplay was drastically different than what I know they're actually implementing. >_<

That said, I can understand how some people would find it quite cool. I mean, DBZ is pretty popular, and so is WoW, and FFXIV seems to be trying to marry some sort of casual, stylistically over-the-top hybrid MMO with a dash of Aion or Monster Hunter graphical realism thrown in just enough to make you wonder at a screenshot.

edit: and you guys said that jumping would look disruptive to the environment - ha! Get ready for lolGoobue riders as breakdancing monks twitch through the fields!

I didn't think the Monk WS was that bad--looked a lot more like Tekken than anything in WoW, like a "drunken" or capoiera fighter. You've gotten have some way of distinguishing it from the basic pugilist punches, and martial arts in MMOs seems to be something that's getting pretty big in Asian games (which we'll see some of in WoW this year).

The Warrior WS looked like like warrior AOEs in WoW or gladiator attacks in Aion (more so the latter, given how nice the animation looked). I think that's fitting--I mean, in every WS I've seen there are light and sound effects that are distinctively fantastical, so while it's unrealistic the weapon is spun so quickly, realism isn't really something desirable in FF combat.

I don't think Monk's WS is that bad. I actually salute them for making more unique animations.

By the way, I don't like DBZ or World of Warcraft.

I'm not sure what so many peoples problem (official forum included) with the Monk's Weapon Skill.
It's just a somersault drop-kick followed by a rising hook-kick (kinda).

The break-dancing looks like the character is just getting rid of any extra momentum; though I admit it adds a little extra flourish just for fun. Still, not really over-the-top grandiose Dragon Ball Z stuff that breaks the 'FF feel' of the game.

In any case, I would have liked to see the motion capture for it!

I think it's more the speed and the clothes sinking through the ground than the animations par se; the whole thing just seems too fast and all over the place. Oh, well, at least the feather wiggles. ¯\(°_ o)/¯

Imo, the Monk WS starts a little too fast. The rest looks amazing but they need to slow down to opening kick.

Their typical idiocy, plus they ask for new animations, SE gives it they still complain lol. Anyone who's taken martial arts knows your momentum has to go somewhere in the aftermath, you don't just come to a stop unless you fall flat on your face/***.

Sure some people adds a bit of flair, but the WS's animation just makes so much sense but does need to be fine tuned.

I don't see a problem. I think they look great, however someone will always complain about something as minute as what the weaponskill looks like. Guess what? There's gonna be some things you don't like. I'm knocked on my *** about how whiney some people are, even with the greatest video games, there has been things people didn't like.

You're concerned about the animation of a weaponskill (That I think looks half decent) that is leaps and bounds better than the animations you'll see on World of Warcraft? Gimme a break.

MNK WS is 2 seconds too long. Need a fast recovery after the second kick instead of acrobatics.

Then make the backflip a job-specific emote.

MNK looks just okay, maybe a little bit too flashy. WAR is a nice blend of simplicity and AOE.

Everyone is entitled to their own aesthetic choices of course. Some will like them, others will not, just like most things in life! I do like both of them, and am eager to see some more for the other jobs!

I agree, if it didn't start out so ridiculously fast, it would look more like he's building momentum.. Adding some weight to it all. Instead, we have this immediate unrealistic kineticism.

I'm interested in seeing all the new animation by a Lalafell.

Wouldn't the MNK WS make them Lala fall flat on the floor?

looks great, MNK is just doing some kind of wushu flourishy kickup at the end that def is not practical for combat. actual MMO combat, i mean. real combat too but who cares.

I love the mnk weapon skill. I don't mind that it's a bit flashy compared to real combat. I enjoy exciting animations, and I don't think it goes against the FF theme at all. ****, in FF8...

Zell has an ability where he literally runs around the world to gain momentum and ends up back where he started.

FF is a pretty whacky series and characters in it do some pretty whacky things. This one's pretty tame compared to some of the single player ones.

Oh come on, your playing a japanese styled game, if you don't like "over the top" animations why don't you play one of the other many fine mmo's that exist?

Still stylelized but they didn't go too far outside the boundaries of realism, my characters supposed to represent a fighter of extreme skill, i'd like his move set to represent that skill even if it isn't practical.

The monk is the agile fighter, the warrior is more brutish I think its smart for the game developers to make the characters animations reflect class differences and offer players a since of character identity outside the paradigm of combat mechanics.

if you are replying to my post, you should read it again because you did not comprehend what i wrote. if you're replying to someone else's post, you should learn to quote.

anyway i'll spell it out for you. point is the animation has a long recovery time during which i expect monks to get smacked around for 1-2 seconds while they are kick-flipping back up. my quarrel is not with the aesthetics, rather, its effect on the "paradigm of combat mechanics". if you will.

The Monk looks more like he is break dancing then he is actually attacking the mob. I swear I saw that move at a nightclub once. :P
