Few things, first my computer. Will an AMD Phenom II Six core processor at 2.8GHz be able to handle this game? Also, the video card is an Nvidia GTX 560. The RAM is at 4gb at 1600MHz. Secondly, I have played FFXI quite a bit in the past and am wondering how I will assimilate into this game. What should I be focused on during the beginning?

You will run it very well. And you should fit well. Most players are XI vets.

I don't suggest leveling one class straight to 50. Level a variety. Cross-classing abilities is similar to the subjob and will greatly help soloing prospects.

For current end-game activities, people will expect you to have the following:
Featherfoot (Forgot what level Pugilist)
Sacred Prism (Level 34 Conjurer)
Cure (Level 2 Conjurer?)
Sentinel (Level 22 Gladiator)

If you won't stop at maxing out one class, you could max out Conjurer first as it's the most solo-able class that require very little cross-classing to be effective. Also, most low level party require a CNJ because almost everyone has it maxed ASAP, so you get a better chance to get a low lvl party going.

Also, pick a populated server to start on. If you ask on the Lodestone forums or in here, some maybe able to give you some clue as to which server has a lot of people. That way you will find a party easier.
