The Last Word — The Goobbue Tamer

The goobbue—that massive, lumbering seedkin possessed of a perpetual grin and arms as disproportionately long as its legs are short. Although ordinarily placid when observed in their natural habitat, little short of a stout stone wall will stop one when agitated. Mind you, this has not served to discourage our Ul’dahn neighbors from parading the creatures about in the many opulent celebrations they hold—an impious practice, as I am certain any forestborn would agree. On such occasions these luckless beasts are bound by powerful magicks, lest they get it inside their heads to turn upon their captors.

As if exhibiting goobbues for the dubious pleasure of folk were not in poor enough taste, word has reached my ears of a man who has made it his business to ride them. Aye, mounting the towering seedkins as if they were chocobos; one difference being that a thrown rider could well land within the creature’s razor-lined maw rather than upon the relative comfort of the ground. A thoroughly deserved fate, I am inclined to believe. But this reporter shall set aside personal opinion for the nonce in the name of objective journalism.

By all accounts, the individual in question is a wandering minstrel come to Vylbrand from as yet unknown shores. If rumors can be given credence, he is capable of influencing the humours of goobbues by way of an enchanted horn, one whose distinct sound beckons the creatures and tames them besides.

Much and more regarding the whole affair still eludes my knowing, the goobbue tamer’s true identity for one, the workings of the horn for another. I shall continue my investigations, and would be duly grateful for any morsels of information that adventurers may have come upon in the course of their travels.

And here I put down my quill. Till next time, may the Twelve keep you.

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

I like the sound of the riding music for this, a nice pleasant tune.

Sometimes I wish they had "account" unlockables or titles. I would love that if we stick around and pay each month until 2.0 comes that this is unlocked for any and all future characters as well ^^; I don't think they will let that happen though.

1.20b tomorrow not bad. However i really honestly hope that the goobbue mount is NOT the only selling point of the patch. Not sure if am alone with my opinion, that the time spend making a goobbue mount could have been invested else ware improoving the game...

Hopefully the mount IS the only selling point of this patch and they continue to invest their time where its needed...PATCH 2.0.

The game is not about the present...its about the future.

Ahh, my eyes! The smeared trim of the rug, the goobue's arms clipping through rocks and hills at every turn, the fact that it's no different than a chocobo - and that even the promotional video didn't hide these things! @_@

Glad we are getting the patch tomorrow. Hopefully there are other things in it besides the mount. I know it is a lettered patch and those are smaller but some bug fixes would be nice.

I like the mount even if it is a bit silly. The music is very nice also.

how do you guys manage to stay so negative? Honestly after this long shouldnt we all be past all the sarcastic and snide remarks?

complaining about things like clipping? no game has ever had perfect clipping and no game has ever tried to actually hide it.

I'ts different than a chocobo, its a mobile mountain.. a chocobo is a bird. maybe we should go back to talking about how bad the game sucks?

you guys were funny a year ago but c'mon are you guys not tired of this? **** we all know the handfull of you guys that have hung around bashing the game will be the first to install 2.0

Actually, it wasn't really all that funny a year ago. It was quite sad. There was a point in time where I was excited about XIV and the fact that it fell flat on it's face(several times now) really disappointed me. I laugh at it to keep from crying.

SE made it clear that there would be items that players could only obtain after sub fees were instated and before 2.0 launches so if you can't see that for what it is, well.. I dunno what to tell you.

Personally i like the idea of the present, seeing a one time only story that will change eorzia forever.

in some respects you could consider it a sort of wings of the goddess for ffxi. only rather than shaping a story to explain the present, they make a story that changes the future. soon to be the present.

I would partake in this discussion, but the links the Op has posted could possibly be in violation of SOPA and I would prefer not to take part in anything that could be deemed illegal :/ Sorry Op.

Strangely topical illustration.

And please don't ask why I had already drawn that.
