I'm going to be buying an ASUS G74SX-TS71 sometime this week and was just curious if it will play well (being medium high at least) with the current graphics engine at a res. of 1920x1080. So, is anyone here currently playing on this laptop?

Here is a link: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1753792&sku=A50-173135

The only thing I plan on modding would be adding a SSD (size unknown) in the empty HDD bay.

I'm not buying this laptop specifically for FFXIV, but I would like it to be a desktop replacement. I plan on using it for school, surfing, minor video editing ect, and of course, gaming. I know this laptop is huge and heavy, but I'm a big boy and the size wont be a problem when I actually travel with it, which will be occasionally.

Who knows if Version 2.0 will be scaled down to run laptops...but the current version is a tough cookie. Medium setting s at best.

Thanks for that link, Simool. That's a good read and is pretty much what I figured.

Yelta, would you mind showing me your settings and fps? I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks guys!

I use that laptop as well. I cranked it up with max AA at 720 p settings on full screen and it ran without issues. However, that might be because the servers are a bit empty. You'll have no issues playing FFXIV on the 74 now and even less when 2.0 comes out. It's a fantastic machine for its price :)

Are you using the standard 7200rpm hdd or a ssd? I read that a ssd will greatly improve the performance when in a crowded area.

Yes, I am. This laptop sits on my piano mostly as I use it for musical needs. I only use it if I'm visiting the parents or g/f etc and want to play while I'm there. I should invest in an Solid state though. It might even help with my sample programs. The HDD is the biggest weakness. 16 gigs of ram and 3 gigs of video ram only to be held back by a HDD that ranks 5.9 on the windows rating. Thanks for the reminder~

My wife plays on the our G74S and it runs pretty much everything at max with little to no issue. I think we just left off the Ambient Occlussion and Depth of Field and I haven't seen it really lag out at all. I don't think you will have too much to worry about. It runs it better than my desktop lol (which is why I let the wife use the laptop... so it is more comfortable and fun to play that game and will keep her interest longer).

Someday soon my friends, this ride will come to and end, and we can't just get in line again.

I've been playing on an Asus Gaming laptop since CE release and have had no issues. Just make sure to keep it cool.
