Hey I'm an old FFXI player and I finally got a new PC so I'm seriously considering picking up FFXIV.

I was wondering if anyone had one of those buddy passes lying around that I could use so that I could try the game out before buying it and pumping cash into it.

I would really appreciate the crap out of it.

Here you go!

You're essentially asking for a free copy of the game, and since I don't think a random stranger off the internet is going to give you a free game, this is the next best thing.

I doubt you'll have much luck with one of these since they came with the Collector's Edition. They're well over a year old now (almost a year and a half), so most won't have them laying around anymore. The game is 19.99$ on most online stores, and may be even cheaper in some local stores.

I'd honestly recommend to just stay away until 2.0 approaches, then picking up a discounted copy. The server populations have been dwindling down for awhile making the game painful for newer players. 2.0 would be the best time to check it out, or upon PS3 release (if it ever happens), since there should be an influx of new players.

Actually I was asking for a way to try the game before buying it.
Its exactly what I said and Its what Buddy Passes come in the boxes for.
Thank you anyway though for dedicating your time to being as helpful and hilarious as those "Let me Google that for you" people.

I had no idea that only the collector's editions came with Buddy Passes. I had bought so many copies of FFXI and they all came with buddy passes so it didn't really cross my mind.

Its not that I mind spending the money its just that I just recently quit my last MMO and I would rather try games out before dishing out cash if I can. I'm sure thats understandable.

I don't think I can rule FFXIV out as a possible candidate for my possible next MMO for as long as it will take 2.0 to release but Thanks a lot for the normal reply and for the info.

Actually you are asking for a free copy of the game, giving a buddy key is essentially gifting the game you would just need a way to download from torrent etc..

Buddy key is not trial key, it's 30 days retail key that comes along with Collector's Edition as extra for purchaser's buddy.

What FFXI came with isn't what FFXIV came with. You've been told that what you're asking for is a free copy of the game -- not sure why that's so tricky to understand. If you're offended by assistance that you could have done yourself on Google, why couldn't you also Google to understand what an FFXIV buddy pass actually is?

I read my first post and all I can see is a polite request.
Nothing that merits poorly thought out Sarcasm or argument.
I already bought the game.
Thanks anyway for all the posts not related to my request.

Perhaps it just seemed odd that someone would spend hundreds on a new PC and not have the $20 to buy the game they intended to use with it.

My response wasn't sarcastic. Sorry you took it that way.

It's a shame that the game doesn't have a free trial. I don't know of any other mmo that doesn't have a free trial download, and this is probably the only community that would defend a move like forcing a box buy to try the game, even if it is *only* 20 bucks.

That's still 20 bucks more than you would pay to try Rift or WoW. SE's business practices really baffle me sometimes. It's like they don't even know they have competition.

In it's current state, i think a free trial would be a big risk. Don't get me wrong, the game is perfectly fine for me but we don't all have the same standard regarding "finished product". Currently, i don't consider myself playing a finished product. I know it and i've choosen to give them my money cause i see the game can go somewhere and i think they deserve it for bringing the game back on track. But i think you need a bit more for a free trial if you want to keep people playing after that. However, what they could do is giveaway some buddy passes to those who already bought the game to get some friends into them for a 30days period or something. My 2 cents heh

Right, a proper free trial should only come out when the game is revamped to how they feel like it. Otherwise it's just spitting more nails in a coffin of a grave they are trying to dig their way out of.
