Hello, random question.

Since on computer I mostly play this, and FFXI along with some misc RTS games. I was wondering how well the macro keys on these series of keyboards interact with the game. I know FFXI has a binder addon for the most popular of evil third party apps.

Reason I ask, being bored I got messing around with my Sidewinder mouse making macros. Sadly it has to type everything out in the chat box, if it is something like a /command. And just worried it was like this on these type of keyboards. I plan to order the G19 shortly, but want to make sure it could work.

I haven't tried doing much with macros on my G15, so I can't really say. Should have the app up and running soon though Smiley: thumbsup

I use my G-Keys on my G19 to string F Key Macros or Num-Key actions together so they don't use the / command like your mouse. But you can set them up to do anything. I tried to set up multiple mouse clicks, but it doesn't work so well in windowed mode... In full screen though you could macro your Chocobo by copying mouse movement.

I haven't used them in a while though, because I really don't find Macros nessecary for solo play. Once the class actions/abilities are set in stone I'll redo all my Macros. I still use G5/6 and G11/12 as Japanese/English social macros. I copied Japanese text for common sentances that are a bit nice than an auto-translated "thankyou".

*EDIT*
A good rescource for what you can do can be found at

Sadly G15Mods and G19Apps both seem to have dissapeared from the web

I noticed that also about the apps. Same with the windows gagdets, or maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

As for the keyboards, I am thinking hard about it. My friend is pushing me hard to start playing TF2 again, so the G19 is looking kinda nice. But then again, I don't play a whole lot right now due to work. So trying to decide if it is worth it. If the apps for G19 don't show up or something, I might just go with a G510 or something. Be a bit cheaper.

Windows gadgets have been retired in preparation of the Metro Apps that will be supported in Windows 8. I will probably port my FFXIV timer over to a Metro App when Windows 8 is released, assuming I manage to get my hands on a copy.

I was reffering to websites that were communities of app makers no longer being around, not the apps themselves. The keyboard monitor app community is alive and well as far as new apps go. I prefer the G19 just because I can do random sillyness on the screen that I couldn't do with my older G15. I find it very hard to use a keyboard without it's own screen now even if I truly only use the screen maybe 10% of the time. It's amazing for teamspeak and such in fullscreen games, along with light email duties and youtube surfing.

Personally, I really dislike windows 8 so far. Nice for tablets and smartphones, but just doesn't seem to be right for computers. I messed with the OS on my brothers smart phone, which 8 is based off, and I just couldn't stand it.

I don't think you can compare the mobile version to the desktop version, and the only release of Windows 8 out there so far is the developer preview which I have installed on a spare machine. It's rough, but that's what a preview is.

I use a G-19 and for the most part all the G-Keys do is class swaps.
G1 archer and all gear
G2 gladiator + gear
G3 lancer + gear
etc

for your point though. it does enter it all via text commands in the chat box. i'm not sure if there's another way of doing it. there is no special trigger though. i just opened the macro editor type in /equip mh "item" and put each thing on a new line.

although G12 is macrod to be push to talk in mumble with some unusual concoction of button presses.

i don't think you can run macros externally like you could with ffxi's windower and the //exec macro.txt. command. but i haven't really tried

But at least we don't have to do skill swaps anymore, I didn't have the patience to put those into my macros.

Dzian, that is exactly what I was wanting to do with them. Sadly atm, I have to put off getting this keyboard. Some things came up, and have to help family. But hopefully next week I will order it, that or an HD monitor, can't decide which.
