I'm starting to level some of my other DoW jobs and figured maybe it would be fun to get the Plundered Gear set from Shposhae. I went there for the first time last night. Spent 2 hours killing key mobs and got no pieces of Plundered Gear.

Opened Copper Coffer 30x
Killed Shearing Sharidan 20x
Opened Silver Coffer 15x
Opened Gold Coffer 3x

I bounced between my 24 LNC and 50 PGL while I was killing, Grippers with my LNC for a little xp and Sharidan/Lurkers with my PGL.

I noticed that speed of kills does influence drops. While the key dropped pretty much equally using either job, I noticed that when I used Aura Pulse or killed one mob after another two quickly as PGL that I would not get any drops at all.

My main question is: did I just have super bad luck or does job level have some influence on opening coffers?? I opened them all with my 50PGL.

I was going to go back there tonight but it seems like a waste of time. I don't really NEED the set but I thought it would be a fun accomplishment. Getting nothing in 2 hours is not fun.

According to what I heard, it's best to hunt for the outfit during waning moon, and some lunatics (I don't believe it) swear wearing the green pumpkin head in combination with a +1 santa suit (or, alternatively, a reindeer suit from the 2011 winter festival) increases drop rates by about 3000%. Then, you have to convince 2 friends to pay for the current beta, and take a close look at their buddy pass keys. The numbers and letters stand for the order in which you have to kill monsters north, east, south and west of you, respectively. Where 1-5 = North, 4-9 = East, A-M = South and N-Z = East. Remember NOT to kill more than one monster per number/character, e.g., if the code begins with A34C(...), and you start out in the middle of the first floor, you kill the first monster to your South, then the first to the North, the first to the East and then again the first to the South (waiting for re-pops if necessary). You will also realize that no buddy pass code has number/character combinations like AB(...) or 78(...), so you will never have to kill two mobs in the same direction.

...

Bored and deeply frustrated that SE chose to "fill" the content gap until 2.0 with endless repetition and drop rates that put Everquest 1 to shame.

Incapacitation tends to play into drop rates for mobs. I haven't actually farmed Gold keys, and considering the ease of higher level jobs of going through there, and I can imagine that they intentionally made the drop rate all the way up to be horrendously bad. Otherwise the items would be a dime a dozen...

/sigh

I thought this was probably the case.

How about a dollar a dozen? Right now I'm thinking that a full set of Ifrit weapons is probably easier to come by.

In many ways that is probably true.

Sad for armor that many people blasted past. I would try timing the chests. Different game time, different game moon phases. SE likes playing off stuff like that, even though Yoshi did state a while ago they didn't have much of the code for that worked in (what he meant is definitely open to interpretation... as usual, and he was talking about god's favor, weather, and the such). Actually, that might have been Tanaka even that mentioned it... But, yeah, I have not seen much done in the study of the drops. But from my experience, 30 keys seems rather low. I typically get about a key every 3-5 mobs I kill down there. But, once I saw the crazy chain of kill, key, chest, key, chest, key, chest, gear that happened, I just walked away.

I think the problem may be more in your drop rate than in the chests.

I'm definitely not getting very good key drops. For copper I was getting maybe a key ever 10-15 mobs. Once or twice I got 2 out of 4 or 5 but mostly it was a lot of kills. As for silver, I was getting a key maybe every 15-20 lurker kills or about 2 keys every red clam. Which really really sucks because getting a gold key is impossible.

Its sort of amazing that this what they do for level 15 armor. Really SE?

Well success sorta last night.

When I got home in two hours I managed to get pieces from:

RoseGold, Copper, Silver, Gold, Sharidan

In the next two hours I got nothing.

I swear the Steel keys were dropping every other mob. One time I had 8 keys total and I couldn't make it down to the chest fast enough and use all the keys - I lost one. Each time the clam spawned I was getting 6-8 keys. Yet with probably 60+ attempts, got nothing from the Steel Coffer >.> Go figure.

I am currently working on FNMs, but as soon as I have a chance, I am going to go down there and check things out. Especially since it sounds like the items from there may become GC reward items...

Is it that the pieces last you well into the mid 20s, even perhaps into the 30s? It seems like by the time a person travels down there with a party and establishes enough kills to acquire the pieces, given how fast one can go from 15-22/23, it's very likely they will have leveled long past the gear usefulness.
