"Europe" server to hurt non-FR/DE speaking Europeans?Follow

Hi,

It is my understanding that the "European" suggested server is to be billed toward people who speak French and/or German.

One of the issues that lead to me not really playing XI and XIV as much as I'd like is the massive lack of people online during the day when I play (shift worker) who do not speak English. My prime time is generally the tail end of JP prime on the wind down. This led to a lot of issues given I cannot speak Japanese so could not really communicate with the majority of my fellow players despite use of the auto-translate function (which I understand was pretty ropey at best anyway).

XI suffered from a late EU launch, and XIV just suffered in general. This meant that the EU player base was small to begin with and then further made worse by spreading it across many servers. Will the herding of FR and DE players to a specific server harm those who are European but do not speak FR or DE? I understand that other Europeans can go to that server, but if it is not specifically billed as being available to English (or Spanish/Italian/Polish whatever) there will be many players who will not go there for fear of not being able to understand any of their fellow players.

I guess in a nut shell:

Why would SE only specifically reach out to FR and DE speaking players? Why not just say "European server"?

Above post is incorrect. My information was based on a mistranslation-- Ragnarok will be fully "European" and not aimed at specific languages. Please see the below quote from RickDio to clear it up!

SE doesn't think ahead? Just a guess.

SE has been pretty consistent in making poor choices with FFXIV.

There's nothing wrong with playing to your strengths. SE knows how to do one thing really well and they stick to it!

Excellent, thanks for clearing that one up! I'll edit my opening post accordingly.

Keep in mind that regardless not all EU are going there. A lot have made homes on their home server and like to play with gmt and Americans as well.

The gmt player base is part of the EU one.

At the moment though I'm torn between jumping to a server where i am more likely to get things done at more friendly and convenient hours of the day. but in an enviroment where i possibly won't know anyone. or staying on the server where my friends are located and living with later events and things running through until the early hours.

I'm Likely to stay where i am though. see how things look after the merge happens. as it stands sara has a fairly modest eu population which means i can get stuff done if it looks similar after the merge then hopefully i wont have to many problems.

the idea of ragnarok is a good one by all means, but i'm quite sure alot of people are in a similar position to me. which could stop alot of eu folks goin amd that itself could possibly be its downfall. but it seems yoshi p is aware of this with the note that he'll consider merging ragnarok if its popilation is considered low.

Yes of course it is. I singled out GMT from EU because a lot of Germans, French and Spanish are going there in particular to find people who speak their own language. This isn't supposition so much as French and Germans in our EU LS (who are staying with us) explaining what they've read on their forums. Albeit a lot of EU people speak English, GMT people such as myself obviously have a bit more leeway when choosing not to leave because English is our native tongue.

Thats opinions for you. Personally I think an tagged EU server is a very bad idea.

I'm in the UK, but do 3 different shifts, so about at all times of day.
I will probably stay on an American server. Partly to stay with my LS, partly as I don't speak French, Spanish or German and don't like the auto translator. I'd rather party with English speakers. It's just easier.

Does anyone know where most of the Spanish speaking community is going, the ones from Latin America? When and if my hubbie and I play, I would maybe like to make an alt there do I can keep up with my Spanish.
