What do you guys think is better? I am getting either a PS3 controller or going to wait two weeks to grab my Xbox controller from home. I'm also going to use it for other non-RPG games..

Plug+Play Compatibility: Xbox 360.
FFXIV compatibility and Ergonomics: PS3.

Since there are many programs that emulate a X360 controller on a PS3 controller,
the answer would be: PS3 if you are willing to spend some time figuring those
programs out, X360 if not.

I too bought a Logitech controller that emulates the design of the PS3 controller, and which cost less than half the price of one. I have no complaints.

Here's another suggestion: http://www.amazon.com/Snakebyte-Final-Fantasy-XIV-Controller-000009/dp/B0046ZQ022/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1330306659&sr=1-1

I prefer it over either, and it's $13 bucks.

I would also have to recommend going with a logitech controller. They have a good feel, kind of a mix between an Xbox & PS3 and are thoughtless plug & play.

The only flaw I've found is a lot of newer games aside from FFXIV are going Xbox360 controller compatibility only (Skyrim, Witcher2), but there may be emulators.

Happily playing Skyrim on my PS3 controller.

I have a logitech, but if I didn't I would have likely picked up the above controller. One thing to mention with it though is that the drivers are only on the manufacturers website (ie not even preloaded into the controller as per norm) which apparantly goes down for extended periods from time to time.

If I absolutely HAD to buy a PS3 or 360 controller, I'd have to lean towards the 360 even though I prefer gaming on a PS style controller. The main reason is that so many games on PC these days are preconfig'd for the 360 controller, and while MOST of the software to dupe windows into thinking the PS3 one is a 360 one work... there are titles which it will not work right away.

If you're talking about the above controller, I've never had to install or use any drivers. It worked plug&play instantly.

I bought a wired xbox pad for like £12.99 and for me it's perfect. i have a 360 which is half the reason i chose it. second pad for friends and it works on pc. for me the perfect solution.

i do use a ps3 pad from time to time though works well cos i can set the playstation button as push to talk. something which doesnt seem to wrk with the guide button on a 360 pad. but i dont use motion joy just a usb lead from my keyboard to the ps3 pad works fine

Maybe they fixed it? I know Wint (assuming it's our Wint on the Amazon review) and a few others on gaming sites had minor issues with certain setups.

Please note: If you use a wireless 360 controller, if it goes to sleep (which it does after 10 min or so of not using it) you will have to restart FFXIV to get it to recognize it again.

Major pain. I just use a Logitech cordless rumblepad 2. works great.
