Choose wisely. Also, I think they said somewhere once they have added the missing genders they may allow us to switch races.

Did I read that or is that just speculation?

You'll be able to change the look and race of your character at the launch of 2.0.

As many times as you want or is it a 1 time thing?

I currently can't decide between a Hyur or the catgirls.

Op, not sure. I think just one time. There was a bit of let down due to missing genders so I think at 2.o it is a one time thing so we can chose between the missing genders, "if memory serves me correctly".- Iron Chef Japan :D

Quick note:
No matter what race or face you choose,
there will always be 100 NPCs
(and, after server merge, PCs)
with the same face
barring a few scars
or locks
or tattoos.

Character customization in FFXIV is from 2001,
and will not change until 2.0.

Yeah, we all know that massive colour palettes and sliders are the bright future of awesome character customization! >_>

(Scroll down a bit for the pictures.)

Unless you pick the gawd awful ugly highlander face like I did...then you will be unique...and full of regret when you realize its too late to reroll =)

Yes... yes, I think that was a very good advice! ^.^

Poor girl, when you have to impose limitations to your world out of fear someone might abuse their freedom. No jump for you, either, eh? And seriously - who needs color customization. Just imagine someone could dare to smash a purple Imp with a pink shield. The pain. THE PAIN.

FFXIVs character customization is a bad joke. I don't like the Aion monsters either, but why do people like you always pull out the most extreme example as if it was the only possible way a good idea could turn out? Both 4-year-old AoC, last year's Skyrim, Rift and, no matter what art style you prefer, all major upcoming releases show that providing options for uniqueness does not necessarily mean opening the floodgates of bad taste (e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYHp9XxFJd8 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m8hsyFdQgM ). Unless, of course, you (sensibly perhaps, by now) assume that SE has neither the ressources nor talents left to draw level.

If your phobia for anything that might shatter your cohesive world of eternal blandness and repetition fits you, go play some paper and pencil RPG, where you can paint the world of your imagination in blocks of gray to your heart's content. I want to look unique.
Especially in a RPG.

I just want my kitty to look cute and have massive tatas. And not old and ugly and have saggy sacks around her neck. So slider bars for tatas please!!!
