Hello, I'm back once again to ask what you guys think of the game as it currently is. If you're inclined to know who I am you can go to my previous threads.

If you want to answer my previous specific questions you can see them in the threads I've linked but I really just want you guys who are currently playing FFXIV to say what you like about the game and what you don't like about the game. Do you see yourselves playing this game for years to come? Are you looking forward to upcoming patches?

The
State of The
Game

Part IV: A New Hope

It is a period of civil war.
Rebel trolls, striking from a hidden base,
have won their first victory against the evil Square Empire.

During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans
to the Empire's ultimate weapon, Version 2.0,
an armored MMO with enough power to destroy an entire planet.

Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents,
Princess Garnet races home aboard her chocobo,
custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people
and restore freedom to Eorzea....

In that case: "The game is in better shape than release, but still not in par with any current game on the market, as far as features and content is concerned, if you dint like it 3-6 months ago, you probably would like to wait until 2.0"

Don't listen to this jaded individual.

I also participated in the beta, I didn't like it and decided to wait until it was better as from my previous experience with MMOs I know that they all have teething trouble and all lack content from the start.
I decided that I'd wait till the people playing the game had some positive things to say about it and the complaints subsided to a "normal" level. That was last week.
As far as I am concerned FFXIV has plenty to offer a new player, if its enough to last till 2.0 without me getting bored I can't say but right now I am enjoying the game and thats all that matters.
So I would say don't bother waiting till 2.0, the game is worth trying now if you are completely new to it ( beta aside) after all you can always stop playing at anytime and pick it up again at a later date.

Just going to throw this out there... I started playing about 2 months ago. I have 2 classes at level 50. Since the patch I've been able to clear the BLM quest line. It was a blast. Took me about 8 hours or so total. Good story. Pick up groups with strangers. Great experience overall as far as fun/content.

I also started to dink around with quests for 2 other jobs but it was a bit more slow going because I was low on anima and decided to hoof it. This is actually not really a bad thing because I keep getting reminded how stunning the graphics are in this game. I am a pretty casual player. I can log some decent hours on the weekend but almost none during the week.

So, imo there's enough to keep a casual player going until 2.0. I highly doubt I'll cap it all by then. And to be honest, I'm more concerned with enjoying the storylines all the way through than capping something like gathering because when 2.0 hits, those storylines are going bye bye. Based on what I've seen since the patch, that alone makes it worth $7 a month to play right now. It's fun, and you get the opportunity to play storylines that will no longer exist in the next version.

I would say it is better than it was at release. There are dungeons to do, side quests, and from what others have mentioned, the jobs has its own little stories to go with it. So I think there is enough content to offer a new player.

From what I have read on the official and the zam forums, pending on server, parties can be hard to come by, LS admission can be pretty steep since most players are well established or maxed out. I hear crafting can be a bit boring still and more so could be agitating to those who are grinding the same item legitimately only to have it auto interrupt as a way to deal with botting or people just taping down a key to auto synth (first time I heard of that). I hear soloing can be quite tedious, dull or boring, but leveling can be rather quick(?).

I would tell someone who was curious about it now, who has not tried it before to give it a shot compared to 3-6 months ago. Worst case said newb isn't impressed and they can always suspend their sub and give it a shot at 2.o.

Hope this helps.

Lillitha, this is exactly why people get annoyed. Read the OP, then read your own post. You are just speculating on what you have "read" and "heard". Why would it help? People who are actually playing the game are answering the question, why would the OP need/want you to speculate for them?

If this is for your personal information why don't you just read the threads and see what people are asking about and discussing.. Do we really need to provide quarterly updates? Oh wait.. half the threads on here are "What's the status of the game" "Can I have a buddy pass" or a question from Scyris

Cha
Just cause one doesn't currently play doesn't mean they may not have something valuable to say. So please, keep your personal and rude comments to yourself. If you really have that much against me posting how about we take this to PM instead of singling me out in this forum?

Besides you posting I only see one other person contributing something that maybe useful to the OP. So why not try and be helpful?

Again, if you can't be nice, just please say nothing in response to me at all, or anyone for that matter. Let's try and keep posts civil and related? Thanks.

Well, thanks those of you who were helpful...though I can tell the amount of those have gone down significantly since I was last here. Regardless, I might show up in game sometime soon.

Probably because the amount of threads that ask the "state of the game" or "should I come back" clutter the forum. One of the reasons I frequent less and less.

Well, when 90% of your userbase leaves, that's gonna happen.

well god knows, you wouldn't want anyone to be curious about your game that is having a server merge because of its tiny playerbase. **** THOSE INTERESTED PEOPLE.

Heh, funny enough, since I just put my XI sub on hold for next month I was considering giving XIV a go - even just to see what is different for myself. The negativity coming from some current players gives me pause, however.

Also I am ONE crysta short of being able to reactivate my main and my alt, which is highly annoying
