That I began playing this game last Thursday and am enjoying myself so far. I guess this last patch I keep hearing about has a lot to do with it. Proper responses may include: "Okay" "Good for you" and "Whatever Nub". Also, anyone playing on Figaro with a sociable linkshell?

Whatever nub.

No I'm kidding. Kidding, just kidding. Hopefully the patches will lead more people to give it a try and then stick around. I'm still waiting for 2.0 to hit before I give it a second try, but I'm cautiously optimistic. Though, I was also cautiously optimistic about 1.0 so.... *crosses fingers*

I am glad you are enjoying the game. You are in the extreme minority of people who purchased this game. Thats not a bad thing tho.

Imagine if you were attracted to morbidly obese women in the same way the average man is attracted to beautiful women. You could most likely have a different fatty everyday and be in heaven. Most people would be grossed out and confused by your extreme pleasure from fatties but you would be living the dream!

When people say they love this game I would imagine thats how the average gamer looks at them- disgusted and confused but remember you dont need their approval to love your fatty.

Keep plowin that fatty bro.

Well, all metaphors of chubby chasing aside, I decided to give an update. After taking Gladiator up to 21 I decided to give crafting a go - specifically blacksmithing. Compared to XI's crafting I enjoy it far more.. Like its not a lesson in masochism so far. I tried using the market wards and found it a confusing mess but Ive met enough people now where usually someone has or can make what I need. Ive also done some leves in a group of 3 and found that really fun but tanking isnt extremely practical- I can keep solo target hate really well but groups of 3 leave me without enough tools to keep things all on me unless I orchestrate the battle before hand (no, let ME pull and I'll cure myself. Fight the one Im fighting, etc) Good news is Im still excited to play and Im getting that new mmo feel.
I know a lot of people who read these forums are on the fence about playing right now but honestly its 20 bucks, a free first month to sample, and unless you really do nothing but play all day every day I dont imagine youll be super bored before 2.0 launches. Forget the cynicism and just give it a shot, make friends, and if it doesnt suit you at least youll have known yourself.
Oh, and I did join Grover's LS. Thanks for the invite!

You guys act like I think finding joy in things that others find terrible is a bad thing. I said right up top in my first post that its a good thing. Could you imagine how nice it would be to be a single man with beer goggles on 100% of the time. Life would be a blast!

As someone who's come back to the game, do you think you could get used to the market wards or would you continue asking others if they have stuff that you need?

I ask because one of the big sticking points for me is not having an AH. You seem to not mind giving an unbiased opinion (which is something that is decently rare around here -- no offense, guys).

As far as navigating the market wards go I realize that at least half my confusion is not knowing how the items are classified. If I eventually take more time to learn where to look I'll be able to use the system as efficiently as it allows. Now, that isnt to say that the other half isnt a big deal too- The format is super unintuitive and takes a lot of going down menus and cancelling back just to even know where to look for what you want. I know in time I will learn to make better use of the system in place but I cross my fingers for a more elegant system in the future even if that just means streamlined navigation menus.

On a side note, the npc vendors carry far more utility to me than other MMOs Ive played. Its not unreasonable to buy things that way since gil isnt too tough to come by.

I have to admit that I got a big stupid grin when I read that. I think it's very, very well put.
