How do you powerlevel/level fastest?Follow

So I have a friend who has been playing the game regularly enough to reach level cap in one of the 'classes' (stuff is still over my head), and he has been asking me to give the game a chance again. I've played the game twice before and quit early on on both occasions, but when I read you could get far quickly now I decided I would give it a shot if I could skip the boring grind.

We've tried having him assist me in several ways but it still seems to be quite a bit slower than what I imagined it to be. If we group up I get no EXP from his kills, and if I tag stuff, I get killed pretty quickly. What are we doing wrong?

Basically I need the specifics to the best methods. Are certain classes needed? My friend wields an axe or something (No idea really). Where are the best locations for enemies to grind with? All I'm asking for is a quick summarised outline to get me PL'd to some kind of end-game stuff because he doesn't understand how it's done either.

I really want to see if this game is worth playing or not, and I'm not interested in doing a solo grind through a ghost town all the way to 50 just to find out.

Thanks.

In case this isn't 'some trolling post' the technique to PL is now done like this:

The PL'er is part of the party they are trying to PL. They engage the mob/s and then leave the party. They then proceed to kill all the mobs that were originally red when they were still part of the group. As they left the group and are actually only assisting the party who still have the claim, the party gets all the exp. After the PL has killed all the mobs they then rejoin the party, rinse and repeat.

I suggest that if your friend, who has this 'axe' type job doesn't know the answer to the rest of your questions then he might not make a good PL anyway :)

Good luck.

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

@Edynotb

This was not a troll, I genuinely wanted to know, so;

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

I doubt my friend would have ever thought of the idea, as it really is quite specific. I look forward to trying it out and hope the game turns out to be fun. Any other tips are very welcome.

Just a hunch, but if this is your attitude regarding playing a Final Fantasy MMORPG you're probably going to end up disappointed. The game is just as much "worth playing" at level 1 as it is level 50, and the "boring grind" is part of the content.

There's nothing magical or revolutionary that happens when you reach level cap of 50, ala significant dungeon gear grinds or raids as in other MMOs. If you don't think it's worth playing to reach the level cap, you're most certainly not going to change your opinion by being pushed there faster via powerleveling, which will only get you so far anyway until you have to group up via traditional means.

I don't understand how this is supposed to make any sense.

Between Guildleves, Behest, and Grand Company missions (which actually do qualify as content), grinding is in fact a last resort even for someone who avoids powerleveling. I don't wax poetic on the mid-level content in this game, but it's certainly not the starkly disappointing, boring grind you make it out to be.

What's at 50 are the endgame linkshells and events revolving around maxing out gear collections in preparation of future events. Playing an MMO with a group of friends is a lot more fun than the long, solo journey to 50 would be, in my opinion, which is why I'm neutral on the whole powerleveling thing. I think there needs to be more mid-level content to make a slow, enjoyable journey from 1 to 50 entertaining, but until then (hopefully when 2.0 hits), it's entirely skippable if it means teaming up with where the FFXIV community is hanging out right now.
