Server Suggestions for returning US playersFollow

I got confirmation today that my wife and I should be receiving our new PCs sometime next week, and assuming it doesn't take another week after that to install and update, we'll be playing again for the first time since three weeks after launch.

Is there a particular server anyone would recommend for US players, central time zone? I know there has been a recent merger, so server populations overall are better, but I thought I'd check to see if there's a consensus on the subject.

For what it is worth, she's planning on breaking her usual dd routine and rolling Conjurer/whm for the first time in our illustrious MMO careers, and I'll be sticking to the tried and true melee role, most likely Pugilist/mnk, althought I doubt either of those facts will be much of a deciding factor.

Thanks in advance for any advice you guys have. We appreciate it.

Thanks for the input. Turns out our PCs are arriving Saturday, so an early and unexpected surprise! So by the time we get things set up and updated, I'll see you all online around Wednesday! : (

I am bummed to see how little Paladins are being valued currently. I'm planning on heading that direction for the time being, but it sounds like Warrior is the better way to go until they get things balanced out. Eh, ***** it. I'll probably still roll pld and wait for things to get balanced.

Well yoh don't start off with palli. It's like an advanced job. Need to get war and another job up score unlocking it I think is how it works. So definately start with war if that is the way you wish to go.

You need Gladiator level 30 and conjurer level 15 to unlock Paladin. Then you will want to decide what abilities you want from Marauder and Conjurer and level those appropriately. Also, depending on how you plan on leveling, as a gladiator or paladin, you might want to level other classes to make it easier. You may want to level Pugilist for Second Wind for example.

Also, welcome back to the game! It is a lot more fun now and most of the most annoying crap is gone. I won't lie, there are still a few issues but most are just annoying vs. making a person want to ragequit.

I'm also sad Paladin isn't getting the love it so rightly deserves, my sisters continuing enjoyment of the game depends on it.

I'm aware of the class / job distinction and how to go about getting there. I was just making reference for down the road. To be clear, we plan on starting as Glad / Conjurer and going from there, which is what we were doing at launch anyways, but I imagine we'll just start fresh.

I also know that they attempted to eliminate some the stat min/max'ing with race choice. Can anyone confirm that race is still purely an aesthetic choice and not as determinative of overall stats as FFXI?

My apologies, I am used to answering people who haven't bothered to read the jobs posts.

The races do come with slight stat differences but to me they are so minor it really doesn't matter. I would suggest you pick your race based on aesthetics but a 100% hardcore min/maxer would probably disagree.

No apologies needed. I totally understand. I've kept a close eye on the game and the updates, so I have a rough idea of what has been going on since launch.

We probably would've come back sooner, but we just haven't had time in our schedules to devote to an mmo. We've finally settled down with stable jobs and all that good stuff, so now is as good a time as any to jump back in.
