New Player First Character QuestionsFollow

Hello,

I just bought Final Fantasy 14 and have some questions about the creation of my first character. I have tried looking around the internet for information, but since Final Fantasy 14 is in such a state of flux it is hard to know what is up to date information.

Since I did play some Final Fantasy 11 a long time ago, my original goal was to pick a race that could play any of the classes without disadvantage. I assume that htis is the Hume Midlander in this game, but I prefer the look of the Hume Highlander.

So my question is, will I be able to job switch as the Hume Highlander between melee and mage jobs without being disadvantaged? Or is the highlander more attuned to melee jobs and will have difficulty with magic?

Also, as I understand it the progression system in this game involves upgrading attributes. Are these on a per character or per class basis? Also, can they be respeced?

I guess in summary what I am asking is if I should make two characters, one melee focused and one magic focused, or if I can use on chracter to play all.

Thank you for your time and help :)

P.S. Any server recommendations?

Race and region have practically no impact as they did in XI. A shame in my opinion but you are safe.

Your attribute points are per class.

Any of the newly merged servers is a good bet.

Pick what race/character you enjoy. The stats for each race are not separated to an extreme like it was in Final Fantasy XI.

You won't be disadvantaged.

Used to be per character, was taken out, revamped, and is now on a by-class basis.

Class
Pugilist: Intelligence/Strength
Gladiator: Mind/Strength
Marauder: Vitality/Strength
Archer: Dexterity/Piety
Lancer: Piety/Strength
Conjurer: Mind/Piety
Thaumaturge*: Mind/Piety

I recommend doing Intelligence and Mind for THM rather than Mind and Piety for added nuking damage. But that's just me.

Yes.
