Meh. I wanted to play, got tired of waiting on my husband so will play until he is ready on a different server and just save my character. Decided to roll on Durandell *sp* So far, I'm liking the changes that they have made to the opening in regards to giving new players some guidance. That is always a +.

Sign up for a grand company when you reach level 22. Keep us posted with how (if?) you like the changes.

But but... I don't want to be on the same server as you ^.^ See ya around (I'd offer help but I don't have anything until you get into the 20's)

:( Wow didn't know I was hated so much :( *sniff sniff* You know there is a special place in hades for making pregnant women cry >.>; I'll be sure to be there to poke you with a screaming baby pitch fork when you come XD. LOL Yeah, I'm just most likely going to go at my pace, will update you Mr. Perrin when I have something that level.

U.K. I will keep it updated as to how I am enjoying the changes. Like I said, so far so good with the intro and guidance, especially if they are trying to make this a casual friendly game and not just pulling in hard core gamers. I obviously havn't gotten far, but will slowly keep chugging along when I can play, granted I don't get baby agro and husband agro during Mommy hours...aka 8 p.m.-11 p.m. LOL

I do vaguely remember the Gridania storyline and not really being intersted in it, but the beginner storyline for Ul'dah when I beta'ed kep my interest. So we will see how it goes from there...guess I need to slowly start working on crafts too huh >_<; blah. Oh well. C'est la vie.

I do not mean to be pushy on this, but is there per chance an update for this Lilitha? As a long-time forum-goer, I am extremely curious to hear your impressions of the changes now that your have started playing again. I think it will be a great metric for what to expect as people start to return for 2.0.

It's okay. I don't think you are being pushy. I will say I am not very far in at all because I just don't have the time to play since I'm so busy with the little one. Just so everyone knows, the only time I get to play is in the evenings when my husband is occupied with other things and when my kiddo is asleep. So the amount of time I play goes from 1-2 hours max per session, which could be once every other night.

I am still grinding away at CON. I was level 11 this evening, but did all my leaves and solo'd one behest to make it a fourth of a way through level 13. I have no continued past the opening story line as of yet. I want to wait until I hit 20 before I do so. Also, once I hit 20, I will be working on getting my other jobs to 20 as well so I can have a plethera of jobs to chose from to level in parties.

The battle pace to me seems to be fine for solo. I would not dare change the solo battle pace to make it slower or faster. I am not sure how it will work in groups though, a little hesitant it will be very very fast in groups, but for me time will tell. The challenge solo is fine, but it also maybe the job I am playing and I don't have other skills to cross from other jobs.

When doing my leves this evening I stayed at camp drybone and stuck to 1 star leves until I hit 12 then I bumped it up to 2 so I could get the bonus of battling. I was able to complete the leves in 5 minutes or less at 2 stars during all of level 12 and to me it was fun because it wasn't super easy, but at the same time it wasn't super hard and the battle pace for me was good. It was a slow battle pace like it is in XI when one is soloing, but it doesn't seem reminiscent at all of the old battle pace during beta and sometime after beta. I am having to be cautious of my MP since the mobs are grouped together during leves and mindful of which spells work best against which mobs i.e. Wind doesn't have much affect on bees.

I did solo behest and that was a bit more challenging but fun. It doesn't remind me of the zergfests that used to take place that I hated and my husband hated. Again I have to be mindful of MP and allowing myself to rest in order to gain enough MP to deal with the next grouping of mobs. The mobs were I believe 2-3 levels above me so I was able to get the battle bonus for killing them quickly, aka chaining.

All my gear and weapons were the starter set that you get, minus the shirt and hat, those were updated from random chests found during battle. So far so good I am having fun, however this is only I think the 3 or 4th evening of me playing. I did collect my battle leves for when I am ready to start leveling my PUG so I can grab some more when I log on next to hopefully whiz through the levels to work on getting my next job up.

I will say I am not too taken by the goobue mounts...they look like crazy hefty blue naked dood running around with a person on their head...not a very flattering visual, but hey, I guess it's a freebe for P2P at this stage. I'll get mine, I just don't like how they look aethetically...personally I would have preferred something else like IDK a dragon or something, but not a goobue.

My LS does seem rather quiet, however it maybe just the times I am logging in, but they are super nice and right up my alley sort of people. It is just a social LS however, so maybe the nights I have been on they are busy doing endgame stuff in other LS's. I am not in any position to do end game things right now and IDK if I will be by the time I deliver my kiddo #2.

It did however take me a few nights to find an LS, and I think the only reason why I found one was due to one of the forum-goers here saw that I signed up to play again. The social atmosphere does seem a bit closed off still. Again, that just maybe the culture of this game. Not entirely sure. I'm thinking it may take a while for that to open up, especially since most players have a few level 50 characters. This may all change at v. 2.o since theorhetically it should lure more players in.

That is basically all I have observed and to report at this time. Again, I will be posting as time goes on my impressions, gripes, concerns, likes etc as I get futher in, but please be very patient with me on this.

Sounds good overall. The social culture has actually gotten a lot better since the merger, at least on Balmung (though we did have a big unofficial meet and greet last week). It is still a little more clique-esk than, say, FFXI, but that has a lot to do with how much everyone has already established a routine. I think come 2.0, if we see as many new faces as SE is hoping to pull in, that will be greatly alleviated. At the very least, Ul'dah is seeing almost constant shouting of one kind or another these days, which I take as a good sign.

As a long time soloer myself, a friendly piece of advice; if you ever feel like things have suddenly gotten a lot harder, go on a shopping spree. Gear means a lot more than it did when you last played and I have had great success bumping up my gear whenever I get to a rough spot.

If it makes you feel any better, no one uses Goobbue unless there's a special reason to, at least that I've seen.

As for party speeds, well, I'm afraid I can't really speak to that. For all of the fact that I've played off and on since open beta, I really haven't spent much time doing party based stuff (mostly DoH or soloing my prefered class out in the boonies). From my limited experience, things do move at a quicker pace. Unfortunately, I have had several instances in which mobs are still dead almost as soon as I have engaged them. That being said, there are also fights like Ifrit and the not, that take significantly longer (though even those seem to be down to a science these days).

Just as an fyi, leveling is a much faster pace than soloing. If/when you guys do choose to join a party and level up, you'll notice that it earns exp much much faster. Leveling speed will get slower and slower as you get closer to lvl 40. Then once you hit level 40 you can join a stronghold (SH for short) party and quickly chain/kill mobs for over 1000 exp bonus a kill. It takes only around 2.5 hours to level from 45 to 50. Just to give you an idea of how much exp needed to go for 45-50 its, 89k, 92k, 96k, 100k, then 100k. Unless you enjoy soloing more than party play, most people have more fun during parties leveling up. Once you hit level 30, try getting some other level 30's to go with you into the toto'rak dungeon. I've never gone in there on a class less than 50, so I'm curious as to how challenging and fun it is at the level it's meant to be played at. If you enjoy that dungeon, you'll really enjoy the dungeons/primal battles at level 50.

I did run Totorak with a lvl 25 party long back then, sometimes when Ifrit was first available. Wasn't too hard except for the boss and the EXP is decent enough back then that you get half of a level per run.

Oh I know, I did not mean to say that I have never partied, just not often enough or recently enough to speak to their "combat speed". It's less of an issue of enjoyment and more of one of motivation. I don't play very often, or long when I do play, so getting a party is often more work that it's worth, especially since I don't want to be one of those guys that runs out as soon as we get to the camp. For what it's worth Toto-rak is quite fun at level, though I don't think I've successfully beaten any of the bosses with a full party of 25-30s (though I'm sure it's possible).

Well, I will try and do the dungeons at proper levels so I can give an impression but tbh, I'm questioning with my hectic schedule and family time if that would even be possible for me to do. I will give it a shot if people are willing. *pokes Perrin* ahem...if many players on the server won't make it a headache to pull a group together so I can see what it's like, but if I can't get a group together, I think I maybe have to opt out for taking a level 50 solo run through :/ Oh well. Will try.

Also another observation I noticed on the Lodestone forums. People seem to be having issues with setting out retainers. Complaining the MW are always full. I imagine some sort of solution to this problem will be fixed. Has one been announced for any later patches or for v2.o release?

I think everyone should have an opportunity to participate in the online economy of their chosen MMO and not be locked out of it. (Even though gil still seems easier to come by than it did in XI, but meh, regardless people should still be allowed to participate and not be locked out due to w/e restrictions.
