Just found this on the official forum:

Quote:
We are a lot of people who are tired with this system, and I'm in a hardcore gamers LS, I don't even wanna feel how it can be for players who have less time to play. When I see that I'm at 6/7 Ifrit weapons and 5 totems (which I passed to other LS members who had less weapons than I do) after almost 1k runs

Now tell me those guys don`t need professional help.
He even admits he doesn`t like it...
I think there should be more therapy programs for people who waste their youth on .1% droprates.

Tell me about it. I hear that some people even have one or more classes at level 50!

I'd prefer the ailment you mention than the alternative: having more cumulative posts about a game than levels acquired in said game.

What's your point? That powerleveling is faster than typing a sentence?

My point is that it's sad to be so obsessed with a game you don't even play.

What's yours?

I was concerned about this as well. Would you be more of a sicko if you played the game or continually make posts about it even if you stopped playing so long ago.

While I have run Ifrit many, many times and only have 1 weapon and 0 tokens to show for it I still like to go fight him once and awhile. I think it is a fun fight and something to do for an hour or two while I wait for my LS mates to show up for AV or CC runs.

I don't understand why people think they deserve 7/7 Ifrit/Moogle weapons or full darklight sets. They are supposed to be rare.

That said, the Ifrit weapon drop rate itself doesn't bother me, but the fact you cannot pass the weapons to your party member does and I hate we have to just drop duplicate weapons... Actually a better drop rate on tokens wouldn't bother me.

A good thrust, but I actually enjoy posting on this forum.
Besides, I still have hope for the future - so all you can
accuse me of is, perhaps, a bit of naiveté (^.-)/

What I read on the official forums strongly reminds me
of the Pandemonium Warden case. Just that the 8-hour
timeframe was replaced with 1000 speedruns.

Which is hardly the publicity SE needs now.

I used to post about FFXI on this account, too. And I wouldn't call writing a few snarky sentences here and there an obsession. Smiley: wink

Also, if someone shouldn't have more posts on the forum than levels in the game, then we're limited to no more than 900 posts!

People like to complain about us having all 50s. *********************** complain about something else that really isn't all that bad. Wahhh.

In all reality...that guy shouldn't have passed his totems. Then he wouldn't be complaining.

Actually the Pandemonium Warden incident was reported as 18 hours in one sitting. And it was really based on a Pet Food Alpha podcast where a linkshell was describing their fight (and probably embellishing a little... really guys? 18 hours? and you waited till people were sick to stop?), which got noticed by the media, such as Wired magazine, and made the rounds. This basically harped on existing fears that FFXI really did suck the life out of you.

In the words of Maechen, "And that, as they say, is that."

Haha, when I first read about this the first thought was, "WFT 18hours!? Clearly these people are playing 'Life' and living, FFXI" That's insane!

Rim,

Don't worry I don't think I plan on doing those runs. If I do them, it will be soley to help out my ls mates. I just can't justify spending so much time and energy on something with a low drop rate. That is time I prefer with my family <3

However, like Yelta mentioned, they are supposed to be rare :o so... Yar.

I'm just playing cause I do want to see the storyline mostly that and my hubbie, like many really don't like this game. :/. Oh well.

His issue doesn't seem to be just with his own drop rate, he mentions other players a number of times in that post. A few snippets:

Quote:

My LS leader got 7/7 in approximately 150 runs. Some are 7/7 just like him, others are still waiting to be lucky enough to get a totem. Although hopefully we pass the totems to one LS member at a time to make sure everybody gets something.

A lot of people just give up, then come back after next patch, and give up again. And I understand that they do. Drop rates were sometimes terrible on XI but I don't remember being ever so tired of XI, nor my LS members who were around too.

He says he passed the totems to people who had less weapons than him. If he'd taken them, it wouldn't have made the overall situation better, it would have only made it better for him personally and worse for the linkshell members who didn't get them.

This is how I do ifrit with a lot of success: I don't. I dunno why people stress out over this. Agree, drops rates are crap and gridng ifrit or anything a hundred times is just as bad as waiting 74 hours for an NM to pop in XI and not getting claim. I didn't do that during my XI days and I'm definitely not going to do this in XIV. XIV 2.0 guaranteed won't go down this route but the don't have much content now, don't want to put much more resources on more 1.0 content, so they have you guys chasing a carrot you will never get without gouging your eyes out of boredom first. I say, for the most part, it's working....or as Machean put it, that, as they say, is that ( Xoie is Machean from FFX? That was pretty funny)

My prediction is that once 2.0 rolls around, some new semi-casual end game content will be revealed with weapons as good or better than Ifrit's offerings and at least some of the people who fought him hundreds/thousands of times to get all his weapons are gonna go nuts. >_>

Actually, the direction Yoshi seems to be taking is when new/better armor does become available the Primal gear will convert into materia. I don't think too many will cry as they will have the next generation of materia.

People who quit playing would be sane. It's the people who still play... those are the ones you have to watch out for.

I got a chuckle at an 18 hour camp. Coming from an eq background that wouldn't be bad at all. Im not missing the good ole days that is for sure.
