Animation Locks YES / NO?Follow

Do you think they should remove animation locks? Yes or No?

An animation lock is when you start a spell..
then you move...
However the spell decides it's going to finish casting even tho the game clearly states you cant cast while moving...
Finally when you do unwillingly finish the spell...you get locked in place,
unable to escape what you attempted to avoid in the first place!

Any Blackmage who has done Ifrit know's what i am talking about.

Granted there is a Safe time to cast durring the fight but it's only safe because you risk animation locks by casting before he uses his abilities.
I can't decide if this became a fight mechanic because it is an imperfection or if animation locks are actually intentional.

The real question is do YOU want animation locks?

/facetarget is your friend, hotkey it and problem solved.

idk how but pressing it gets rid of the ping problem. if your casting and need to run take like 2 steps, hit your hotkey quick and then keep running

using it on melee is awesome too. if a combo requires you to run to the side of the mob: run > facetarget > ws and it will hit the mob correctly with no delay from the server thinking you are still behind it

Doesn't really bother me. First of all, BLM should never be doing Ifrit, THM should cuz of the cross-class abilities. It was a pain in the *** at first but once u get skilled at the fight it isn't bad. It's funny your raging...I was the same way until I learned "CRACKS COME FIRST!". Everyone complains and blames the game til they figure it out.

I do say sometimes Ifrit goes a little crazy with "millions" of cracks and kills everyone. That should be the only true reason for dying.

I'm not entirely sure if they plan on keeping Animation Locks in 2.0. As of now they are here to stay. There is most likely some info about this topic somewhere on the interwebs. The Ifrit fight seems to be the only place where they can hurt you. If you think they are bad as a nuker, try healing the fight! You'll have a whole new appreciation for people who get frustrated with the fight. Of course, you will be the one to blame ;) I learned the best role for me is to tank the fight which is always my first option. Having all 50s though I do play the "filler role" where I do have to occasionally heal the fight.

If you do get sick of the animation lock/server lag issue associated with the cracks I'd recommend leveling a tanking class. Warrior tanking him is fun and relatively easy once u learn how. Only thing u need to watch is stupid melee DDs spawning cracks on u, keep spamming hate generating abilities, positioning after jumps, and remaining in the safe spot from plumes. Just gotta watch those plumes especially post Hellfire because they can take you down unexpectedly as a tank if your not careful of your location relative to the "Left healer".

Gotta remember, this is old content. I'm sure (or hoping) the devs now realize this is an issue and won't ***** with us on future fights (points to Garuda). But this is SE were talking about!

Make them go away! This may be old content but its new to me since I just started doing them. When I finally got down when and where I needed to run I die from them cracks while casting. It keeps shifing the learning curve for this fight and I still see vets of this fight get caught in the cracks while casting.

True, true. It still is new to many people. You'll enjoy the fight once u really start winning a lot. **** I still think it's fun and I've run him more times than I can count lol. My advice is to just keep doing what your doing. Sometimes Ifrit gets a little angry and spawns some crazy cracks everywhere, especially after Hellfire, and they are 'basically' unavoidable. I say basically because I've run with some people who just never die, ever...I don't understand it either but it's true (definitely not me as thm!). In the case where its crazy cracks and most people die, try some crazy maneuvers and get everyone up or on a jump...odds are against you but crazier sh*t happens. Most vets die too, you just gotta expect it during this fight.

On a side note since its a related topic, 7/7 on Ifrit Weapons last night! :) FINALLY!

It's a Square-Enix (and to a lesser extent Japanese) game; the animation locks are here to stay.

Why do you think people went out of their way to ensure that JAWait0 was available immediately after every patch in the few times it was broken? Animation locks do nothing but force artificial/fake difficulty into gameplay, and A/FD is what SE has been after forever in their MMOs.

I think certain things should have animation locks, like longer drawn out WSs just because they look better locked down but in general I don't care either way. It's been mentioned that 2.0 will remove locks anyway.

See above + animation locks can be as much part of gameplay mechanics as anything else. Look at TERA for example, without animation locks not a single mob in that game will hit you cus you can then run circles around mobs swinging your axe a the same time (especially if you're a Mage class). I don't think FFXIVs gameplay gains anything from locks though, so good thing they are removing them.
