Market Area Improvements
* The following adjustments, scheduled for patch 1.22, are in development and subject to change.
•Patch 1.22 will introduce a number of improvements to market areas.
•The following locations will be added to each city’s market area:
•Limsa Lominsa Mercantile House
•Gridania Mercantile House
•Ul’dah Mercantile House
In addition, the current item search feature will be moved to the locations mentioned above, and will take place through designated NPCs. This change will allow players to directly purchase items from any city’s market area. For example, a player in Gridania would be able to search for and purchase items from the Ul’dah market area by speaking with an NPC in the Ul’dah Mercantile House.

•“Market Guide” NPCs will be added:

In addition to using the existing market area entrances, players will be able to speak with “market guides” around town to travel directly to each Mercantile House.

•It will now be possible to search retainer wares by typing item names into the search field.
* Search results will show all items that start with the entered term.

YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought we would have to wait til 2.0! Looks like they found a way to do it in the current system! The "Ul'dah Markets are full! I can't summon my retainer!" woes should be over! Its a big step in getting everyone out of Ul'dah!

Yeah I got a little carried away with my exclamation points but this is awesome. I'm so excite.

Certainly a welcome change, but man, how low the bar has fallen on what people consider amazing achievements in game design. :)

Well, technically, depending upon what they said couldn't be done they could still be correct and this is a fantastic workaround.

This isn't one search NPC/market for all cities, it's three NPCs/Houses - one for each city's market - in each city. A very smart approach and quite possibly the best solution for what isn't possible given the current architecture.

Regardless, this is fantastic news all the way around.

As stated below, this seems like an exceptional workaround for something they didn't think they could do with the current servers and code. Yes it's not a big deal, BUT as XIV proved it is a big deal if you don't have these things.

Yeah, no kidding. At this rate, it might be possible to sell your items using those market NPCs as well, and then about 80% of FFXI's auction house functionality will finally be achieved (to much tearful fanfare and I-never-thought-I'd-see-this-day applause). Just need the delivery system for the last 20%. Then we can party like it's 2002, when the PS2 was king and everyone wanted to be Yuna (even the guys)! Smiley: clown

Hey, I take offense to that! All I ever wanted was Lulu, forget Rikku and Yuna. Lulu was all woman.

Hmm. You may have a point. There probably will be a lot more Lulus once the "Generous Bosom" feature gets added to character creation. Smiley: rolleyes

Have to be careful with what you're trying to say, Lil. Au naturel means in its natural state, but it usually implies nudity. Smiley: lol

I've heard that D3 is mind-numbingly easy and that, on top of that, you can't even increase the difficulty until you've beaten the game. I'm sad to say that, even if it didn't have a real-money auction house, I couldn't get excited about it. (._. )

The beta that people would be talking about with experience is roughly 1/3 of one act. The game has 4 or 5 acts and 4 difficulties and ofcourse hardcore mode where when you die you are dead. I am not to worried about rumors of the game being to easy because all people have seen is level 1-13 so far. The devs were having a talk the other day about how many MONTHS they think it will take the first person to clear inferno difficulty. The game should be very solid :)

But that was my point: that, even to experience a harder difficulty, one has to run through the entire game, then run through the entire game all over again. It's not exactly compelling for me to just repeat identical story, zones, and bosses. A replay loses the sense of discovery that can only come along with a first attempt; it is less exciting when I know what's coming, when I know what creature lurks at the end of the cavern. I don't care if there's an "inferno mode" waiting at the end because I can only experience it by slogging through the exact same game again! XD

Even worse, it often implies unshaven pits and lower...

Would be nice to be able to summon my retainer, I just hope that I'm not misreading and you won't need to check multiple places to get the consolidated results and you just get them.

I'm pretty sure you will still need your retainer with this fix, although they've also said they are working on letting you summon your retainer at the inn (in your room). Don't forget, you can use the stall trick to summon your retainer right now, even if there is not any space. Just use the stall for a day, and then it will boot your retainer out and let you set him / her up wherever. Also, it will be three "windows" to search each area's auctions, the results will not be consolidated. So if you want something specific you will have to check all three.

Oh ok.

So it's like Diablo I, II, and a very high percentage of console games.
