I haven't played XIV in about half a year, pretty much because I got tired of playing on my own all the time. Did they fix the party seek tool? Do people party like they used to in XI yet?

It seemed people only bothered for 5 minutes every half an hour for behest before...

I don't think people will ever party like they did in FFXI, not in this game. You could, perhaps, form a small group with a friend or two and do rather well. But soloing is easy and a powerlevel is even easier; and aside form those, it's mostly levequests and "raids." When SE adds cross-server auto-grouping for raids after 2.0, though, that will likely spell the end of whatever parties there were, as everyone will probably just stand around waiting for the system to make things work for them.

For better or for worse (opinions will vary greatly on this matter, so I'll keep out of it), 2.0 will be using much more of a WoW architecture than an FFXI one.

Right now if you want to party ...go to Ul'dah ,If you want to get AF group and any Grand Company quest go to Ul'dah.I believe it's the only city "unintentionally "designed for Shouts. Save crystal ,wards ,leves desk , repair ,stores and city exit are all in shout range. It's the only city in game built like this.

Party seek tool works, people don't know how to use it...

Sadly, SE has made it really easy to learn...

You know what was easy?

Main Menu -> Party -> Seek Party

I didn't need a 10 step guide with diagrams to seek a party in FFXI. FFXIV's search system is too complex and convoluted. Advanced features are nice, but they shouldn't get in the way of the ease, elegance and simplicity needed 95% of the time.

Don't get me wrong. I totally agree. However, this is what's in the game currently and if you use it... it works and helps you advance in game. It takes all of 5 minutes to figure it out. I do hope in 2.0 we have a search function that's with the times.

They did add a search tool which is easy to use [Main Menu >> Search >> Criteria] and simpler than the one in XI. People do put EXP parties together. It is probably like XI in that you will wait/shout 30-90 minutes to build a full party. Your odds are better during peak play times.

I do agree with Kane. The reason they choose not to use it is because there are other faster/easier options to get what they want.

Seeking, or putting up your flag does still use the old system. I believe some elements of the old system are needed. For instance, I want to be able to search not only for people by level but also for parties which have similar goals in mind. The fact that they use 2 separate systems to achieve what should be in one easy system is somewhat annoying.

I'm guessing a lot of people use this search and use shouts to fill the party. I always wondered why the shouts start at 5 or 6 then then they spend the next 30 min shouting for a healer, tank or mage this explains 90% of the shouts. I hope it takes 5min when 2.0 comes out.

:(

If they wanted FFXI players to switch over I don't know why they'd change the paradigm so much. Surely they knew they had a niche?

I kinda disagree with this actually, certainly on the EU server tons of partying is going on from 25+

I missed the transfer period so have started a new character on that server. I have been using leve and solo grind camps to get to 25, then I start forming groups. There are now some fantastic camps for all level ranges and with the mob link and xp chain system, they are a great way to level up. Sure some people are power-levelling, but having seen a fair few new people join a lot of these do not have access to a power level.

More people are flagging when they want an xp party, but I am also getting great results just randomly pm'ing people as the search facility works great. You can easily filter the level range and classes you are looking for.

Shouting in Uldah also has really good success

That's basically what it is though. Main menu -- Search -- Seek party. However they just added a UI specifically for searsching for party members which is very easy and intuitive. Just a few drop downs to set search parameters and click search. They then added text commands that do the same thing for those more familiar with that system in FFXI. Anyway turns out there are some servers who rely heavily on party and search menus. Someone posted a pic on main forums from Gugnir of a party search turning up 17 results, that's huge for FFXIV! Lol. On Selbina I hardly see anyone using either one. I've sometimes heard people shouting for a specific role in a party, I pul up search, find someone instantly and tell them to use search because you can find people on it. But people are too conservative and hate change.
