Unluckily not, it seems. This preview video was just posted on the official forums.

Yay for swiss spring knife transformer blades and puff baloon fire brick gloves.
I thought one of the games remaining prides was a certain modesty and realism?

P.S.: To be fair, the WAR weapon looks o.k., and the BLM weapons look interesting.
Nonetheless, the new stuff added since 1.19 (including the Ifrit weapons) is far too gaudy for my taste.
Looks like they outsourced their design team to Korea to me. How can I enjoy playing a stylish and
cool character, when everyone around me suddenly pops out their light blue glowing icicles of plasticflash
transformerdoom?

Am I really in the minority on this?

I agree with you. After the Ifrit and Moogle weapons, I was hoping we'd eventually see less gaudy (ridiculous, really) weapons.. This was a good opportunity for that. But seeing those MNK bricks, it's only getting worse. It's like they sit a few people down for a half an hour, chat about what would be humorous on the next set of weapons, and then just throw those notes at whoever is in charge of designing them.

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

I think they look impressive, and the added animation to the weapons is well done.

The Con flower staff looks kinda off, but all things considered, I wouldn't mind owning any of them.

I am curious what the crafted weapons look like. And I am starting to get the impression that they are looking at making the crafted weapons more traditional, while the "gained" weapons are more creative and potentially offensive.

I'm really interested in stats the provide or I'll be saving my seals. "Increased Durability" must mean slower degeneration but IMO that's worthless if the stats don't compete the drops you can get from ifrit/moogle (or the one or two drops from raids that aren't jokes).

So glad I'm WHM and WAR mostly. Sorry for all those MNK mains--- at least the claws from last year are still good!

The only weapon in the video I absolutely don't like is the monk weapon. Other than that, I like the mage staffs and the bow. The lance and the axe are ok looking. I'm more interested in what the garuda weapons will look like as well as any new DoH or DoL tools.

Apparently no ones ever heard of the saying "hits like a brick wall". And seeing as how monks are probably the most powerful job, those brick weapons are quite fitting, ridiculous as they may look. I like it because it's a testament to their power. "dude lol those fists look ridiculous..... Just kidding! Don't hit me!"

I wasn't sure at first- but these appear to be all crafted..? Wonder if we gave to buy recipes? How are they linked to GCs..

Patch 1.22 will see the addition of new weapons and armor available for crafting by Disciples of the Hand. This Topics post will provide some insight into the nature of these items, and introduce the social milieu that gave rise to their creation.
New Grand Company Gear
After the establishment of the Grand Companies, each city turned an eye to crafting quality arms and armor with which to outfit their respective forces. A growing number of adventurers can be seen clad in this official equipment as the Grand Companies continue to reward faithful service.
There are those, however, whose livelihoods have suffered from the availability of such equipment—the armorers and weaponsmiths who rely upon the custom of adventurers. These craftspeople began searching for a means to rival the companies’ superior wares, and eventually discovered their salvation in working with darksteel ore and hippogryph skin.
Though well known for their incredible strength and durability, these materials are notoriously difficult to shape and deemed ill-suited for mass-production. After much experimentation and deliberation, however, the masters of each guild developed improved crafting techniques. Thus were they able to forge a new series of unique items.
The invention of new crafting methods has made such arms and armor possible, but the process is still said to test the skill and patience of even the most seasoned smiths.

* New recipes include weapons, armor, and accessories.
* New weapon recipes planned for patch 1.22 are for gladiator, pugilist, marauder, and lancer classes only. Weapons for other classes are planned for release sometime after patch 1.22a.

I actually like more or less all of them. Not super excited for any of them except for the THM weapon and honestly I like the weird PUG knuckles. Yes they look strange, but they are different and I kind of like that. And really, with the look of the Garuda knuckles I think most people will be happy for at least one of the two designs.

I see what you are saying about the weapons being a bit over the top, but I don't really mind and I think some of them are really cool.

They fit the extreme gaudiness at which SE seems always to be aiming. I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference at all - which says as much about the person who created the models as about SE themselves.

Oh, these are real. /blush

What guadiness? Only the garuda bow and mnk bricks look over the top. I want interesting looking weapons, not basic steel looking swords, etc with good stats.

I want weapons that look like HURT,
and not like a fence on a lollipop.

I like the bow and the star system staff. That's about it. Also, why is that lancer holding a fork?

Hmm, flashiness definitely trumps elegance lately as far as new weapon design goes in this game, although I'm not 100% against that as long as it fits the world they're creating (for example, the sword would look absolutely ridiculous in the Lord of the Rings films, but would be pretty tame in the anime, Bleach).

I think I like the bow and that black mage staff best. The only ones I think look really awful are the gloves and the lance. Overall I'm mixed on these weapons personally.

Ifrit and Garuda weapons are kinda over the top and I will agree that they are very reminiscent of Korean type MMOs. The new crafted weapons however look like they fit nicely, they look bad *** but not too flashy. A nice medium if you will.

I have to say, I was contemplating paying a sub and checking the game out to see all the new changes. Was waiting for the server merges to smooth out.

Then I watched the new weapons video......really? Don't get me wrong, a weapon's look doesn't have much to do with the game play, but it seems that some of the goofy decisions that made me decide not to pay a sub in the first place are continuing. As of Nov 2011 I was going to pay and see where this game went, then 1.20 hit. I'm afraid that I'm still going to be disappointed with the overall direction.

Going to jump on the D3 bandwagon and see how that goes. If that doesn't pan out I might come back and check out XIV again.
