Patch 1.22 will feature all-new battle content pitting adventurers against Garuda, the primal of wind. Two encounters will be implemented: a standard battle for level 40 light parties (four members) and a hard mode designed with level 50 full parties (eight members) in mind.
Garuda

Worshipped by the Ixal, this capricious primal commands the winds. A figure equal parts woman and avian, Garuda calls the sky her dominion and the storms her servants.

Ixali teachings portray Garuda as the Empress of Birds. In the age of myth, she slew the malevolent Lord of Snakes, ending his foul attempt to bind the world’s creatures to the earth. It was through this deed that birds might now soar freely amid the clouds. The ferocity of the battle, however, left the victorious Garuda sorely wounded. She feasted on the carcass of the reptilian king to restore her strength, and, with her wounds thus healed, once again took wing. Legends say that Garuda’s bloody banquet, whilst healing her physical form, also left her with a taste for the flesh of land-bound mortals…

Thus for the flightless Ixal who claim kinship with birds, their bloodthirsty guardian deity is a source of both rapture and terror.

Knock back attacks, random feathers, multiple Garudas and a freaking tornado in the center of the battlefield at some point. Fun fun.

Really don't much care for the way she looks. The spiked heels had me rolling my eyes from the start but then it looks like she has pincers on her face. Looks more like some kind of feathered bug or something. Hopefully they will improve her design.

You sir have upset me today. lol. Really? You're going to complain about that? It's their art direction. Take or leave it. Are you the same type of person who would complain about the chocobo in XIV not looking like a big chicken with hanging hair ***** off it's face like in XIII-2?

Example:
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111201172755/finalfantasy/images/e/ec/FFXIII-2_Serah_Riding_Chocobo.jpg

For me that chocobo in XIII-2 looks retarded, but I play the game and appreciate the things WILL be different in each one.

Regarding Garuda:
http://www.pantheon.org/articles/g/garuda.html

Quote:
Garuda is the king of the birds. He mocks the wind with the speed of his flight. As the appointed charger of Vishnu he is venerated by all, including humans. Garuda is the son of Kashyap, a great sage, and Vinata, a daughter of Daksha, a famous king. He was hatched from an egg Vinata laid. He has the head, wings, talons, and beak of an eagle and the body and limbs of a man. He has a white face, red wings and golden body. When he was born he was so brilliant that he was mistaken for Agni, the god of fire, and worshipped.

My devout Hindu friends are ****** SE is mocking the looks of their deity.

In XI garuda had talons on the feet :(

Now that I'm done saying that; I appreciate your concern but how much more should they improve it when it doesn't match what it's named after and still looks pretty dam close to XI:

EDIT:
Now this looks retarded:

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

I said I didn't like the way it looked. I never said they had better change it or else Approach and repeat ultimatum in an even firmer tone of voice. Add the words: "or else." I simply said I hope they make it look better.

They look a lot like bananas or maybe goofy pigtails to me. There is something called being different for different's sake (which XIV did a whole **** of a lot of and not for the better.) Not always a good thing but not always a bad one either. You appreciate things will be different but even you don't necessarily like what makes it different.

Shiva is a male god in religion, an ice goddess in final fantasy
Garuda is a male god in religion, a wind goddess in final fantasy
Same goes for any other name SE uses in it's game's, which is derived from something existing out of the game.

As for the fight what i gather is
- fight Garuda until X%
- kill small add's as they pop
- hide behind rock's to evade aoe
- 2h brake's rock's
- hiding behind rocks no longer absorbs 100% tornado attack
- after 2h a clone appears and must be killed
- dev's wipe*

Shiva as presented in FF is an extreme interpretation of the Hindu Shiva. Shiva is technically his own wife and child since they are different aspects of himself, so in that sense, he can be considered female (in some statues, he's depicted with female genitalia). There's also a sect in the Himalayas that believes Shiva is made manifest in ice formations found in some caves out there. So, you could make a case to say FF trivializes Hinduism.

Then again, Square's Xenogears was just a madman's drug-induced re-interpretation of Christianity which would have been offensive if it wasn't so ridiculous (it's hard to get too upset over a giant, crucified pink teddy bear).

Apparently, you have some leeway in religious fantasy in Western society. Just as long as it doesn't involve any female nipples showing.
