Hi all, I am an old ffxi player and have so far avoided ffxiv but have just recently consider starting up again. I tried looking through the forum for answers to these questions but fear they may be too basic to actually been asked anywhere. So here goes:

If both me and my partner wanted to play would that result in two full subscription fees?

When v2 gets realsed does all the data get wiped?

Is now a bad time to start?

Thanks in advance

1. Yes. Two accounts = two subs.

2. No. A lot is changing with version 2.0 but your character, all your leveled jobs and all your items will carry over plus you get to do a one time (presumably one time) character recustomization with the addition of Male Mi'qotes, Female Galkas and possibly some other races.

3. Now is probably as good a time as any. Version 2.0 would be better and its only a few months away but they just started a campaign called "legacy campaign" in which players who pay for 3 full months of playtime before the 2.0 beta get a lifetime discount of $9.99/month for the duration of FFXIV's life. You're still eligible so you might as well give it a whirl now and cash in on the discount.

Thanks for the quick response. I am from the UK so I assume the reduced fees apply on a converted basis also? If I buy the game with a 30 day free trial I assume I will have to have played for 4 months (3 paying months) before being entitled to the reduced fees, is v2 likely to be longer than 4 months away?

You can read about the campaign on the lodestone. You have to PAY for 3 months... Not PLAY for 3 months.

The easiest thing to do is obtain crysta (or i think you can just use credit cards now.. i dunno) and then buy 90 days of service. Theoretically you can do this the day before 2.0 comes out and be grandfathered in.

Ah thank you for the info, sounds like a good deal. Only problem seems to be my partners laptop wont play it (intel 4 chipset graphics), she was looking to upgrade soon anyway but does anyone know a laptop under £350 that will play the game on low settings?

I would check the 2nd hand laptop market, gamer laptops typically take a very heavy hit on resale.

A quick check of ebay shows the alienware m15x with the 8700GT going for around 500-600$ USD which should be approximately in the same price range and give you something better than playing the game on the lowest settings. Its probably a $1,500 laptop used for under a year or two.

It won't run FF14 on max settings but there's a very big difference between lowest and highest settings and the middle ground is very pretty by comparison.
