From the depths of my imagination

"Ukiyo,,,...Ukiyo... Wake up!!"

.... You begin to stir.. feeling your upper body being shaken by a pair of hands... attached to.. ..[i]who is this person!!#*$#!

Your vision clears and you begin to take in your surroundings...An Elezen female repairing her armor. Hume male, tall.. bald.. but rather large.. Must be a highlander.. brandishing a sword which seems so unnatural in his hands. He shakes his head and stares at his weapon. You recognize him. He used to wield this so effortlessly.. but something.. has changed. A lalafell, male, covered in dust and soot. These are the hands gripping your shoulders. There a quite a few "Adventurers" nearby. All covered in debris--in fact.. the whole "city" (if you could still call it that) is in ruins. It's hot.. humid. and smells of sulfur.

"What happened here?" you think aloud.

And then you remember...

Dalamud

.......

So.. My idea on a force reroll..
2.0 starts off and we are all... get ready for it.. LEVEL 0 on everything!!!!

Now, before we cry about this. Let me continue my "story"

.......

You stand up and steady yourself by leaning against the wall beside you... and it happens.

Flashback. The city. Alive. Dragoons "Elusive Jumping", adventurers forming parties, crafters melding materia. You hear your name and turn.. releasing the wall from your grasp.. and it's gone.

Memories quickly flood in. You were once something... powerful. Picking up the discarded highlander's blade you feel another flash...

Ifrit. Moogles. Garuda. Ogres. Misers. Chimeras.

But the blade feels heavier now.. it doesn't move like it used to. Like it's been stripped of his power.. or is it you that has been stripped?

.............

Ok.. sorry for the cheese... but here's the skinny:
Fast forward.. oh.. 50 levels or so..

.............

Success!!! You sheathe your blade and examine your spoils. As you kneel you remember the day you had awaken from Dalamud. This blade.. this very blade that once felt so foreign and unsure of it's master now is an extension of your very being. You've felt this way before about very recently as you began to take up other professions. Curiosity demanded further explanation to this-- as other adventurers seem to recall a pre-Dalamud arms proficiencies that now are "defunk"...

You sigh.. and continue rummaging through your spoils.. Gil... Crappy gear for the Auction House.. and .. ... something shiny!!!! You grasp for it immediately and...

Flashback. Raiding. Job Changing. "Go White Mage, Uki." "Toto Run, go Monk, please Uki"..

This shiny.. something.. looks like materia.. but.. none like you've ever seen.. How did it invoke these memories?? What would happen if I placed it in these Claws i have laying around?

You attain Monk 50!

...............

So.. My thought.. if you hadn't guessed it.. and maybe it's something that i prefer.. but as content pre 2.0 ages so quickly.. i wouldn't mind re rolling to level 0 and working my way up to it.. If you could use this singular reroll of a job to obtain some item you could meld to a piece MH or Off Hand gear to unlock something you leveled in 1.XX

Echo Materia? Non Class specific. Rare/Unique. Can be obtained by certain mobs.. NMs.. or by a repeatable quest.. But you need to experience 2.0 from "the beginning"

Thoughts?

I would like to see that in a raid. Stripped of levels and you have to reclaim your memories, levels, gear etc. Would be a nice FFXIV twist to Salvage.

I'm all for reroll. They mentioned it way back in I think December of 2010 and it's a great idea. It would suck to be an established player and have nearly none of the new players rolling characters on your server.

I am also for a reroll, but realistically, SE can not pull that off. Not after promising several times that it won't happen.
I guess they'll shoot for a compromise by establishing new character exclusive servers, so those like me (who'd like
to start over) can do so in a "priscine" environment, and those who'd like to continue with their all-50s can keep, well...
grinding speedruns.

Like I said in another thread, assuming that SE will be reforming the lower level content, new players will be looking to join parties with other new players and everyone with a 3 year headstart will already be beyond the point that they can even participate. This will force new players away from established servers. Old players may have some shiny endgame stuff, but they'll probably want to experience the new opening anyway. I'd say a lot of people will end up rerolling anyway.

I am very much for it. I'd be really excited if they started again with a more appealing class system.

Increasing the cap to 75 or so and making 1-50 about 1/4 of the way towards it would also keep me happy, though I still don't really like the armory system. People are going to want to play classic FF classes from the start I think.

I hate to spoil it for you guys, but it's not going to happen. Yoshi-p has stated numerous times that he will not reset characters levels and/or progress in the game. If he did that, it would make the whole reason of playing the game right now completely moot. People play right now so they can establish themselves before 2.0 comes out and there are a bunch of new players coming in with the ps3 release and subscription renewals on pc.

The new servers they are adding at 2.0 launch will be exclusive to new characters. Yoshida said that established characters will be unable to transfer to these servers for a while. No time frame was given on how long a while is though. I know at least two of my legacy slots will be going to one of these, so maybe I'll see you there.
