Never thought I'd make a thread like this, but I don't feel like hijacking another thread.

I've been a player who has been keeping tabs on both FFXI and FFXIV. Vanafest hit me with the nostalgia button with me and I feel the need to satisfy that. That said, I've read up on the troublesome times with the lack of newbie-friendly content or tutorial-based guides. However since I have to at least pay for a month I want to have the best experience possible.

So, few questions.

1) Are there any linkshells willing to accept a returning player who hasn't played since Grand Company was introduced, and is willing to give some guidance?

2) From what I read, in terms of leveling it's Powerlevel > Party (Grinding) > Solo (leves/grinding). Is this true? Because I have a summer class and I probably won't be able to be on all the time, so I will have to solo.

3) My main will be Paladin, which I believe will require me to be a Gladiator. What other classes will I need to level to support my Paladin via cross-class abilities?

Which server are you on? I know one on Hyperion which accepts new and returning players as is incredibly friendly.

Leveling via leve's from 1-20 seems standard and throwing in leve's and Behest's as well is really quick, Also there's actually a few shouts a day for exp parties ranging between 20 - 50 in Ul'dah. PL is a way to get to around 30 quickly, but i dont see many of these happening.

As for Paladin, http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Paladin will give you most of the info you will need

I'm restarting completely fresh, so I'm free to join any server.

Thanks for the link, I'll be sure to check that out.

I didn't want to make a new thread... picked up the game again after not being around since, um, january. I'm trying to re-learn all the bits and bobs, and there's a lot of changes obviously... I only have one question.

Is there any way to make the action bar attack the target and cast the spell at the same time? Like, hit 1 and have my character cast thunder on the marmot, rather than Click on marmot+ hit 1 + hit enter+ hope it doesn't run out of range.

I tried reading the beginner guides on eorzapedia and the official site, but none of them describe how to actually kill stuff.. or potentially I'm having a braindead day and I can't find it.

Yes you can, it should be in Target option. Move your cursor to the setting option and it will explain what's the options are about. One of it is an option to remove that re-targeting for spell. They should have made that default.

! Thank you! I never would've thought to look for it there... I just had to click 'Action Subtargets' to off. Now it works! Huzzah!

No marmot shall be spared.
