Ul'Dah Market WardsFollow

Hello all,

I'm a pretty new player. I have a couple of classes around level 10ish and I've begun to accumulate a large number of random loot. I searched the Market Wards in my home town of Gridania but the histories show that people don't seem to shop there very often. After doing some research, I have discovered that most people use the Market Wards in Ul'Dah. After traveling to Ul'Dah and entering the Market Wards, I was dismayed to see the message, "You cannot summon any more retainers in this area." After going through each and every one of the individual areas of the Market Wards (no small task), I failed to summon my retainer every time. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some trick or quest that I am missing here? I ended up selling all of my merchandise to an NPC to open up inventory but I would like to address this issue for future reference. Thanks in advance!

P.S. If anyone knows of a good linkshell for beginners on Ridill, please let me know. Thanks!

This is my main gripe with market wards, there is a limit to how many Retainers that can be "active" in each ward. Since Ul'dah is the main hub..well you are SOL. Seeing as they are adding delivery system in 2.0 hopefully we will see a real AH and be done with this silly extra system that serves no other purpose than to frustrate players trying to not only buy...but SELL their goods. For now you either will have to bazaar your stuff on your character, NPC your items, or set up shop in Grid or probably the better choice of LL.

Hi again,

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that might be the case but I thought I'd ask in case I missed something. I'll try Limsa Lominsa for any items that might be higher priced and NPC everything else. Do you know if there is a good time to try and summon a retainer in Ul'dah? After maintenance perhaps?

Not sure, I've never gone into the wards after maintenance. I've pretty much given up on using retainers for bazaaring and just going to patiently wait for 2.0 to see if we get any semblance of a true AH.

And thanks, though I did not create that drawing of Rainbow Dash, nor added the Galka, but I am responsible for that piece of Bacon =). GO GO BACON MAGE!

There is an option, if you go to one of the booths on the sides of a ward you can pay 500 gil to rent one for one day. You can sell your stuff and people can search your retainer that way. I personally can not wait for an AH. The Ul'dah wards can be frustrating.

I think the market wards are one of the scariest places in Eorzea. It's crammed with lifeless retainers that only thinks about selling stuff to people.

There is one option but as you are lower ranks it might not be possible yet and although it is a solution it is very annoying to do. All you do is search retainers and when you get one with items that you can afford to buy you buy all of their merchandise, once you have done that their retainer depops and you quickly need to summon yours. I didn't say it was pretty but it does work!

Wow buying up all the merchandise for a space now that's wicked. That explains all the single items marked at 999. All these years playing FF and I'm still a noob.

Thanks for the tips everyone! It does seem kind of ridiculous that we have to go to such lengths to sell our merchandise.
