so im really interested in this game, ive heard alot of bad things but i know some of em got fixed by now and that big 2.0 patch is coming. but i have played FFXI trial on my xbox 360 and i actually REALLY enjoyed it mostly bcuz of the community. it was an awesome experience ive never really had with mmos. they were friendly and i was invted to a linkshell quickly and they taught me everything. ive tried almost every mmo out there and like none of them really, except FFXI, and thats mostly bcuz the communities are just boring in other mmos imo. so with that being said how is FFXIV's community (particularly noobs, i dont wanna be a lonely noob >.<) and how is FFXI's also if any of u happen to know.

oh yea and i wud appreciate it if u guys can give me an honest opinion on which game is better between FFXI and FFXIV, bcuz i know FFXI has alot of expansions(i have all of em) and FFXIV has been getting flak on its launch so im kinda on the fence.

You have tried a free trial of FFXI and you liked it? I would go for something I liked. The FFXIV community is good but it is different to FFXI because of numbers of players and the gap between people that have been playing and are going for relics etc and those people that turned up later. If you can get to play a free trial of FFXIV I would give it a go and just compare for yourself. Only you can really decide.

The FFXIV community is nothing like the FFXI community, it's not welcoming at all. MOst will simply ignore you unless you are in the same linkshell as them.

If your only reason to try FF14 is cause you liked the FF11 community, then you should go back to FF11. If FF14 has any strengths then it's community is definitely NOT one of them.

So you know how in WWII replacements would come in and none of the vets would even bother to remember the kids name. He was so green odds were that he was eating a german bullet within the week. Well welcome to the war FNG.

I call dibs on his boots after he bites it, these ones are getting a little worn from all the German *** I've been kicking.

Community help comes when:
1. They need something your doing.
2. They are in your Linkshell.
3. They are just helpful people (Rare).

Until the developers turn on ingame incentives for helping others with quest chains (that should be solo), then you will continue to see the above regarding the community.

It really doesnt help that there is no larger chat feature to call out to players. Search feature as it stands works but is restricted by the number of people using it.

Having said that, this game is and can be fun, depends on how you want to play it. If something isn't fun, skip that task or hold off until you see a group forming for it.

In game incentive for players to help other players? Check.

Ease of joining activites even if they are not on your server? Check.

Only thing SE can't solve is social problems, which are player issues, not gaming issues. You can find a group in Ul'dah if you look hard enough, but it will be difficult in this stage of the game. Everyone's pushing hard to meet accomplishments before 1.xx ends and their characters get stowed away until 2.0 release.

As far as being open and helpful. That really depends on how you introduce yourself to the community. Be open, friendly, and as a bonus, funny, and you'll get players talking with you no trouble.

It's definitely playable now, huge improvement over the release version.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it fun yet though, I think we'll have to wait until 2.0 for that.

I donno. Playing through United We Stand tonight... Yeah that was most defiantly fun in a manner that I have not had in quite a while.

Half the people who post on these boards quit playing over a year ago OP, so take it with a grain of salt.

The game will cost you 8 bucks to play right now, and comes with a 30 day free period, plus another 30 day free period when 2.0 releases.

Basically, 2 free months now, or 1 later. Which sounds better?

Can't tell if serious.

You're basically asking which is better between 'rather not play right now' and 'hopefully it is fixed'...

He wants to try it no, everyone in the thread says wait til 2.0.

If you're going to try it no matter what, better now then later.

Just my opinion, but I'd rather wait to use my free time playing it after it's in better shape. 2 months playing alpha or 1 playing launch... at best it's a wash unless 2.0 is a colossal disaster. If it's epic win you not only get your free time to play it while it's really good, but you have a better perception of the game from a better experience.

I agree to an extent, in that it's better to have a clean view of 2.0 if possible.

I know that I tell my friends who want to return to wait a few months. I'm having fun playing now, but I am constantly saying "oh god this right here better be changed/fixed" haha.

Also... you have like 1-2 months tops to play and then EVERYTHING changes right? Controls, menus, system, world. For new players, it seems a bit silly to get used to all that just to have it changed.

If you're just starting up, we're kinda at the final countdown now so I can't really convince people of that.

I'd rather just refer them to the You Tube links of the fights that are going on. Though not many of them have good camrea work.

I would say take a look at To Kill A Raven. That fight is darn fun, and the cutscenes for it were even better than United We Stand.

But to start fresh right now? I coulden't reccomend it. Back when you could still get Legacy status of it? Yeah, it was a very sound idea.

Though I'd say tis better to listen to those currently playing the game verses others outside it. They can explain the reasons why they don't play, but the longer they don't the more dated their view becomes.

The Darnus Fight and Skirmish both are really fun and easy to get into, for those currently playing, however.

It's too bad I don't have a friend who could let me play the good parts :/ Don't think it would even be feasible to work your way up to them at this point, would it?

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

You can get to level 50 in a few weeks and we have a few months to go. If you were determined, you could probably. However, you only have until patch 1.23a to get the goobbue mount. I don't know when that's coming, but you need to be level 30 for that.

It's entirely feasible, but the larger problem would be time for the quests, not the leveling. You need to:

1) Level to 50
2) Level a few other cross class abilities for your job.
3) Do a lot of pre-requisite content to get all your AF (in most cases you need to clear a dungeon to access a dungeon)
4) Do all the quests for story and Grand Company. This is the longest step, because you'll burn through your anima quickly teleporting and have to walk everywhere. Then, you'll have to find/shout for groups for the older content.

Again, it's possible but it will take a lot of dedication. It depends on when they finally close servers also. The latest interview mentioned Open Beta in January. If that's the case... you have plenty of time.
