Will there be any new server when 2.0 is out ? I would prefer starting over on a brand new server. Any info on when the Ps3 version will be out ?

I would have to look it up, but I believe the answer to that is not only a yes, but that they will be restricted in people moving into the servers (or at least that was the intent), to allow people to grow up without any issues of people already established. And those servers will have their own set of unique issues (Namely Elite players with all level 50 combat classes within the first month).

It was said a long time ago, and so is difficult to locate, but the answer was that, yes, there will be servers for new players to join come 2.0.

I may be wrong about this, but I believe that in addition to a new server, PS3 and PC users will be able to play together :)
PS3 beta is scheduled to start at the end of 2012, with an early 2013 release planned. Let's cross our fIngers X^D

some questions:

  • Can we redo our character since new models are inserted in charracter creation? I am human now but I want to be a male miqote, I want to use my char name as it is now, and don't lose my goobue mount.
  • Would there be an option to wipe my character if i want to? as I said before, I want to hold some few things I had now but the idea to start from 0 is strong in my head.
  • Could I choose my server when v2.0 comes to life? I would like to start fresh in a new server with alot of newbies.
  • Do you guys think there will be a PS3 client download? It is hard to get SE products in my country (at least the mmo titles) and I want to give my son a ffxiv account as 10yo birthday present next april.

- Yes. Its been confirmed you'll be able to redo your character model however it was still up in the air on whether or not they will allow you to rename your character - seeing as you're not changing your name you don't have to worry about this. The Gobbue mount will stay along with everything you own.

- To keep it brief (i.e., I'm not getting into legacy details) the new subscription will for 2.0 will provide you with 8 character slots on the server you choose so you wont need to delete your character you can just make a new one at no extra cost.

- You can if you're starting fresh but you can't transfer your established character already (i.e., I can't take a character from 1.0 and transfer him to a fresh server). This has been confirmed.

- MAYBE. Complete guess on my part so take it with a grain of salt. However, seeing as I have to guess, I would say since the PS3 is pretty much a computer I don't see why SE wouldn't make their game available for download as well. It'll basically be the same process as installing it off the CD however I'm not sure what Sony's policies are in terms of this or where SE sits on this idea and no mention of it has been made so cross your fingers I guess. But my advice, give your son a soccer ball for his bday, its got to be healthier than this addiction I have :P.

Excellent post kyara. I was unsure about a couple of these questions but you did a good job answering them :)

Being able to choose your own server is a key part of any MMO for me, to ensure that i can play with people I know.

An interesting thread. I've been visiting Zam every now and then to see if there has been a date set for Ver 2.0.

Thanks for the heads up about the PS3 release timing. Early next year you say?

Will that coincide with Ver 2.0 release then?

On the subject of PS3. I wonder how they will be handling the client patcher? Do they expect PS3 users to know how to assign a static IP to their PS3 so they can open the ports required for the patcher? Or will they sell the PS3 version and you are just SoL if you don't know how to do this?

Will you be required to have a PC available to setup your Square ID? Will it be possible to sign up through the PS3? How about payment methods?

I forget how this worked on FFXI for 360. I seem to remember that you could complete the sign up process without using a separate PC.
