... I'm sure there are tons of those around here.

Anyways, yeah, this game has always been on my mind but I've never taken the step to actually re-activate my account and see all the changes that have been made in the past year. More and more I want to check it out again... but I'm hesitant.

Will I be completely lost in what to do? Back when I stoped, there were no quests outside of the story line and Anima was so slow in coming your pretty much only did leves in one city as you couldn't afford to teleport around. Other than that, the only way to level was mindless grinding similar to XI where you camp in one spot and pull the same mob for a couple hours in a row. I've been spoiled by other MMO's so I'm hoping there is no more variety in this game. I understand quests are always the same. Kill X mobs, collect X items, talk to X person, and that's about it ... but at least you chang what your doing every 15 minutes instead of doing the same thing for 2+ hours in a row.

Is it better to try and continue my current character? Better to trash it and start over? General advice?

I tried reading through the patch notes, but there are so many it's taking a very long time, and what I read in one usually changes in the next anyways.

Thanks all! I hope the FF community is still as nice as it was compared to other MMO's. A lot more friendly people to noobish questions like this. Smiley: grin

Not very far. Low 20's CON and 19 ARC.

I also had a couple of craft's in the 20's (Weaver the highest at 26 or 27). BOT should be in the low 20's also.

For storyline quest, I started in Gridania and got to where it sends you off to Ul'dah.

I downloaded the game, started it up, but since I don't have an active account all I can know for sure on my levels in the 19 ARC ;)

I guess what I'm worried about is between stat changes and class changes I won't have a clue how to play them anymore, or if I'll have to obtain all new gear. I do have around a million gil though if I remember right. No idea if that's a lot or not, sounds like a lot but gil was pretty easy to come by then.

****, I was hoping it wouldn't be that bad. I'd hate to pour that much time in again just to get back where I was. I generally play on my own as I can only play afternoons EST when next to no one is on, and I never do the power leveling thing.

I guess there is always the next free trial coming at 2.0's release, I can check things out then without loosing anything.

1.) Remake your character to try and get a handle on all the changes.
2.) Quit after a month and wait for 2.0.
3.) Remake your character to try and get a handle on all the changes.

I honestly don't think it's too hard to get back in the swing of things, I wouldn't start over again, I would just level one of my lower jobs (if you have any lvl 1s that's great) to get the hang of everything again. Or if you don't have any lower jobs, lvl 20 is not a bad place to start either. Depending on when you stopped, it might be easier for you to find something to do, since you can do levequests in the same city over and over again now until you run out of Leve Allowances (which refreshes by 4 every 12 hours I believe, and you can have a max of 99). And eorzeapedia.com/google is my answer to everything if I'm stuck on something!

If you have some crafts already to the 20s I would say use your current character. Battle classes are easy enough to level, but crafting especially at the start are very time consuming.

And while the majority of the quests are kill quests, not all of the are. And now even some of the kill quests actually have story and purpose (one of the higher level ones you are attempting to rescue this guy's wife from some cultists).

So, there is meaning and purpose appearing in the game more than just go do this, and get a tiny reward.

As well, if you rejoin now with your existing character you will easily have time to get to 30 and get your obnoxious Goobbue that you will not be able to stand to use because it's so incredibly large its ridiculous (but still, for some crazy reason, it's kinda fun to have Yoshi give you a goobbue).

And the other nice thing is that you will now be overwhelmed with things to do rather than the underwhelming feeling you had when you left.

There are two dungeons at your level.
~dozen NMs to kill for weapon drops for the different classes (and gear). Escort, Grand Company Leves, Grand Company Quests, Getting your chocobo, dozens of quests at your level or below. A simplier crafting system that is easy to work with (you no longer need a level 50 crafting class to level up a level 20 crafting class for gear that is useful).

And people are actually out and doing stuff (mostly at 50, but that's because we haven't had anything to do but level for a year).

Once you get a class to 50, there is even more stuff to do (over, and over, and over, and over again... Redundancy is big in End-game... But meh, doing the fun stuff over again isn't bad, e.g. like dynamis).

And of course once you get to 30 you can unlock your Job. ~40 you start collecting your relic gear.

And there is a whole slew of other things to do.

I came back a month or so ago, and I have to say that the changes to the game are all welcome.

The good:

There are a ton of quests with good storylines. If nothing, it was worth coming back for that.
The game is a lot more playable. It's easier to do just about everything, and the UI is a lot more intuitive.
Leveling isn't nearly as grindy. I honestly can't say that I was stuck at a level in either crafting or battle. Leves give a ton of XP and there is no need to go out and grind on stuff. Leves reset reasonably fast, and you'll get decent gils from it.
The flaws in the game are expected to be fixed by 2.0.

The bad:

Most people are at cap. I haven't done practically any group stuff because getting a group isn't exactly easy. Then again, I haven't tried to yet. I did a few dungeons and the 4-man Ifrit thing, all of which were stupid easy with lv50 people around.
Still no AH, and no matter what they do to the market wards, it won't make it an AH. Stuff is stupidly expensive, and the market isn't exactly moving fast. Granted, ingots and cloths and whatnot will sell, but outfitting a character through the market wards will take you oodles of gil. Don't bother selling anything anywhere except Ul'dah. Ditto for getting a party.
No mailbox yet. Then again, this, plus the AH, is something 2.0 will fix.

The ugly:

the goob mount. I mean, i'll take my free mount in any shape it comes in, but dear Twelve, that thing is fugly.
