Copied footage from the other vid to extend the original from 1 min to 2 mins long. Still no gameplay footage. At least the VA is a bit better Smiley: smile

Thanks for posting. Agreed that gameplay footage would be nice, but I think they're saving that for Gamecom

So, to appeal to the "traditional FF audience" (as Yoshida puts it), they change the trailer from "senseless voiceovers and dozens of explosions" to "senseless crystal-based voiceovers and dozens of explosions." Well played, well played; I think you've won them over.

I'll have to watch it again at home with sound... but honestly it felt like the first one offered a better idea of what is happening... this one seemed a little to... everywhere...

On a bright note, I got confirmation of my qualification for the legacy campaign finally :P Hopefully v2.0 will be worth playing (at least for a couple years)

I think when 2.0 hits I will be turning voices off. Also a trailer with gameplay involved would be much better.

They aren't going to release gameplay footage before Gamecom 2012, which is in mid-august. This trailer is just a pre-game for that. In a few weeks, YouTube will be flooded with whatever footage they release at GC, both for PC and PS3.

I agree with Yoshi, this is probably a better trailer for FF-fans. The first tried too hard at being a trailer to appeal to "everyone".

I could give a rat's patootie about CG. Everything before actual gameplay footage is fluff and marketing.

I'd agree that even a couple of up-to-date game-play screen-shots would be nice. Especially for the PS3.

I just hope they add storyline content. The sad part about FF14 is i remember npcs names from FF11 and not FF14The guy at the end of 14 wiped the floor with npcs but can't remember anyone in the fight name.

A ReAlM ReBoRn! La, la-la~
(Female voice playing enthusiasm)

Somehow the thing that keeps reverberating in my head is the FF7 victory jingle. "A Realm reborn. Dadadada- da- da- daddada-"

But: it's better than the first one. More green, less explosions. Improvement.

Much better CG trailer, and definitely a much better voiceover!

I'm very excited to see a trailer with gameplay footage, but knowing it's coming in less than two weeks is good enough for me.

We knew Gamescom would bring the gameplay debut. So what's with the crying over extra footage in the meantime?

Is it the frustration over having to wait as much as one week more for the gameplay? I know life can be tough to deal with sometimes.

Meh, even as far as trailers go, I liked the first one better. This one was a bit more in the traditional style, admittedly.

Did think it was kind of funny how the trailer was basically about the crystal begging players to come back and give the game another chance.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Actually, the crystal thing dates back to even FF1 IMO if you count "Orbs" as crystals.

I actually haven't played FF4. I was just pointing out that the theme dates back even before 4 :)

I was not referring to the theme of crystals, for i know they have been in every final fantasy lol

I meant the poem, is copied from IV, or the verse and the legend etc etc. I really dislike the notion that XIV needs to copy aspects of the story from the series to stand on its own 2 legs, XI did fine on its own.

that's all.

Actually when I read what you said I too thought you were talking about the crystal theme. Maybe you should brush up on your comprehension so you don't have these misunderstandings in the future. And honestly, who the f cares if they recited a poem at the start of a promo video? F#%* what a lame thing to be overly worried about.

I believe GamesCom kicks off here in less than a week, meaning we'll be seeing some FFXIV 2.0 gameplay videos! I'm really excited to see how the PS3 graphics engine performs. I know it won't be as good as the PC, but I'm sure it'll still look fantastic!

The tagline of Final Fantasy IX: "The Crystal Comes Back."

Source.

IX did not revolve around the crystals, well in IX case the 2 crystals that really existed was the one in alexandria where alexander was sealed and the planet crystal :/ It was not like IV or V or III or 2 or 1 where crystals where the engine that moved the story along and where the main focus off.

You're just digging yourself a hole here, Ostia.

Quoted from FFWiki:

Quote:
In Final Fantasy IX Crystals are the source of all life; the Crystals residing at the center of planets circulate life, from which all life is born, and to which the souls return upon death, and as the memories of living beings accumulate inside the Crystals, the planets grow. Eidolons in Gaia are guardian spirits created by the Crystal in order to protect it.
The people of Terra had mastered the art of fusing their Crystal with others, allowing them to assimilate other worlds and keep their race thriving even when their current Crystal weakened. As revealed in the Final Fantasy 20th Anniversary Ultimania[1], once a Crystal has aged, it returns to the cosmos and becomes the source of a new Crystal.

Crystals also appear in the game as a means of summoning Eidolons. The four "jewels" sought by Queen Brahne of Alexandria were in fact fragments of a Crystal broken apart 500 years prior to the game. If all four jewels would come together in Alexandria, Alexander would be summoned. This echoes Final Fantasy IV, as Alexander heavily resembles the Giant of Babil, which was also summoned by a gathering of Crystals.

Also, Crystals can be equipped as Add-ons, which grant the user special abilities, particularly for Dagger and Eiko, who can learn Summon Magic from them. Eiko can also alter her Summon Magic according to the gemstone she has equipped.

The game was based on Crystals - even if they weren't shoving the theme in your face every time you open the menu. Perhaps you should be the one to replay the game.

I work 6-7 days a week. It doesn't phase me anymore.

I got this Sunday off, which is nice. But I was so sick yesterday that I had to take a half-day. Good thing I'm ahead of expenses for this month.

Did manage to get my but out of being bedridden long enough to jump into the GW2 Stress test. The gameplay is amazing, but the graphics made me appreciate SE's attention to graphical detail.

2 weeks until that game is out - and about a month left in FFXIV's 1.xx saga after that. Then there's the local Ren Faire, and Extra Life coming up, inventory at one job, and of course the fall push in business for the other.

Going to be a busy season for me.

The game was based on Life and Death, and that was the focus of the game, the crystal theme was a secondary one, it dint consume the storyline as in IV-V, it was never the catalyst for the storyline, again for the first half of the game, crystals dont really mater at all until the end of the second CD, and even then is "Oh alexandrias crystal is broken... cool lets hit on dagger and move on" the only other point where the crystal meters is in terra at the end of the game, and then you are on your merry way to finish the game and it's wonderfully written end boss :/

To compare IV-V-III to IX is totally idiotic, **** if all we need to say a final fintasy was based on crystals is for it to be a minor plot point linked to the main point of the storyline, then VII was also based on crystals, materia is created from the lifestream, the lifestream is the essence of the spirits and life, OH MY GAWD FFVII WAS ABOUT CRYSTALS!!! YOU CAN EVEN EQUIP IT Smiley: lol

You may satire, but you're right. The concept of 'crystals' under the name Meteria was important in FFVII - it became the power by which the world was attempted to be destroyed. It was by which the world was attempted to be saved. It was the primary weapon the main characters used to advance themselves above the rank and file (in terms of gameplay.) And Huge versions of them were even attempted to be used as weapons by the enemy. That didn't take away from the other elements of the game, it added both depth and familiarity to it.

But all of this is distracting from the point that FFIX and FFXIV share the same quality of being fanservice titles - that can and will make several nods to previous installments. You may not like it, but you won't be stopping it, so get comfy with it. It didn't prevent FFIX from being a good title on its own right and it won't prevent FFXIV from doing the same, in my opinion. There will be plenty that makes FFXIV unique in its own rite.

Not sure why a lot of you keep feeding one of the biggest trolls on this board.

The final areas of Memoria is called the "Crystal World". Crystals play a large role in FFIX.

In any case, most of you (except Hyrist) missed the point at what I was getting at. IX was a fan-service game, there were a ton of references to older FF games before that, and that's what made it the game it was. They're going in that direction with XIV as well.
