I haven't found a single source that's been reliable for the 2.0 PS3 Beta Test... Can anyone clarify who gets to play or how one can try to play the PS3 Beta? Are there no signups at all? Do you have to own ffxiii? Do you need some sort of code? These are just some of the things I've heard on different sites. Anyone know for sure?

I contacted SE directly on this so I'll do my best to answer your questions:

They told me that they have not released any information on how they are planning on choosing players for the PS3 beta. Anything else you find is most likely speculation/rumors.

Signups will begin after the official announcement of the PS3 beta, likely to be sometime this Fall.

You do NOT have to own a copy of FFXIII. The keys that were given out during the time that FFXIII was released may still be valid for the upcoming beta, however SE told me that promotion has since been ended. In other words you can no longer obtain a valid beta key for FFXIV that way.

This is just the response that I got, which is subject to change as soon as SE starts making some announcements in regards to this. The information out there on this is pretty limited right now, but I'm willing to bet that will change quite a bit after they release gameplay footage in a few days (@GamesCom 2012).

Just to add to this, the website that accepted the FFXIII keys for FFXIV beta access was taken down ages ago (it just redirects you to the finalfantasyxiv.com page, now). Even if you managed to find an unused FFXIII key, you couldn't use it anyway.

Keep in mind McNasty that those who did receive keys when this promotion was going on may still be eligible to automatically be included in beta testing :) They have not announced this officially, but that's the impression I got from SE.

If you spoke to anyone speaking English, then they are no one of authority in decision making so I highly doubt they know what's going on with any more confidence than any of us.

You've never worked for a Japanese or a non-American company before, have you?

Nope. But your are talking in absolutes. Never a good idea...but you seem to be smart...so you should know that. You do not know who makes the decisions in this case. I mean seriously...you have an SE org chart handy?

I would imagine there are plenty of SE upper management who speak English. Who knows...but I know you don't know for sure.

Bottom line...you are possibly correct. But try not sound like you know for certain. It would be better to say things like "there is a chance that" or "possibly this is what is happening".

Because when you talk in absolutes...and we know you don't really know for certain...you just sound like an a$$.

So basically what you're saying is...

The 'super shiny golden beta ticket of doom' guarantees that you may be eligible.

I just checked and you're right. I found my beta ticket from XIII and it says:

You are hereby invited to the PS3 beta test for FFXIV! Well, actually... you're invited to sign-up on the website and prey you get in with all the other schmucks. Good luck with that Smiley: clown

I appreciate it. You're more generous than SE it seems.
