Just wanted to drop a note here that SE slipped up on webmaking once again and let the Arcanist and Summoner webpages be hosted before they were revealed.

Players guessed up the jobs and they got exposed to the entire base before the devs quickly took the pages down.

Credit to Blue Garter for their quick thinking and quicker screen-capping.

Edit: Ulp, then went and took down the EU site down too.

Nice find :). Assuming this isn't some elaborate Happy Friday :P Glad to see some new mage jobs... here is to hoping that they now make it so you have more to do than just case 4-5 spells over and over :(

My happy Fridays are obvious, this is the real deal. I caught the EU site myself before it went down, and the mods deleted the origonal thread on FFXIV official forums, even though it's well out of control now.

They'll probably have to make a statement about it or get tight lipped until the 25th FF Birthday party, which is probably when they intended on revealing it.

Lovely. Personally, I welcome a new class/job to level up with open arms, and a DoM too!

Archmage Cloe will happily run around with her Carbuncle as soon as the class becomes available :)

yeah, if they don't fix the casting system I don't care how many new mage jobs they have. They NEED to scrap the whole "mage spells count as abilities therefore you can only have like 5 of them" thing. Seriously. And while you can cross class spells, it's still ridiculous to artificially limit the number of spells like that.

I saw that too. Hopefully they keep the guy in charge of webbing far, far away from the development of the actual game.

I'm glad they're introducing a new magic class. We really needed it.

I'm also happy that I have a new battle class to level for "A Realm Reborn". I'm looking forward to it!

Arcanists summon Carbuncle? Summoners summon primals ?

FFXI Summoners will be on overload over the news. Smiley: yikes

All the most recent Yoshi interviews made it sound like summoning primals were out of the question except for a big one-per-server variety. This is an unexpected reversal.

Hmm... the pictures show what looks to be equipment too similar to sets we already have. Paladin and Conjurer are too stylistically similar to Summoner and Arcanist. And who ever heard of a summoner in heavy plate armour? Not me.

I suppose it's possible that those pictures were placeholders (or that SE just made some half-assed JSE), but I'm going to remain squarely (hehe) doubtful of this information until I have some more reliable evidence.

I seem to recall strange preview footage for FFXI expansions. Summoners with scythes! Warriors in full Koenig! I think their marketing department just uses what looks good and not necessarily what makes sense in actual game play or even what's possible for that matter.

The pictures that were used were the same ones used for pld and conjurer they were most likely placeholders like everyone else said so we still have their actual jse to look forward to seeing once the officially announce them.

I personally love pet jobs and was a bit disappointed when I read in an interview that you wouldn't be running around with your own personal ifrit, but now I see Caruncle is on the table.

Yeah, you have to train them not to do that. And between that and the litter-box, they're kind of a pain to summon. :\

He's a good candidate for the one-per-world summon.

They'll probably show a video of a new summoner calling forth a birthday cake summons. It'll follow the summoner around and pelt mobs with flaming rosettes.

New info from an interview:

Arcanist and Summoner
It’s the same as what I posted in the relevant thread regarding both of them, but I’ll just add the little comments and teases they made.

Please look forward to the auto-attack motion. (Throws the book?)
The players will be able to craft the books and they will have recipes. The class that crafts them is of course… can’t tell right now.
Summoners will not have carbuncle as a pet, but they’ll be using the primals as their source of power. However, not the primals themselves but they’ll use only a part of a primals strength. “A pet that the primals power dwells in” are Matsui’s exact words if I wasn’t mistaken.
The summoners will be able to borrow the power of 4 primals (this is what is planned till now, and could be expanded later on). The ones that are confirmed right now are Ifrit, and Garuda.

I'm looking forward in seeing how the Arcanist and Summoner will play out with 2.0. So far it looks like a Pet class with DoTing and Debuff abilities. I wonder if they're going to add a new crafting class for making books? I can see how Alchemist can make ink, paper & glue, Weaver to sew the pages to the book spine, and the Leatherworker to make the cover and spine. But don't you still need a scribe to fill the book with the arcanist runes & symbols?

I'm hoping that the "A pet that the primals power dwells in” equates to different versions of a carbuncle.

Think of Carbuncle being styled towards Ifrit or Garuda. It could be very cool.

Ya it seems like Arcanist will work like PUP in that sense if they only have access to summoning Carbuncle and the Summoner job might allow them to augment Carbuncle with the essence of titan/garuda/Titan and possibly one more hopefully levi lol.

I wonder how they'll handle Carby in terms of HP, will it be a shared HP between master/pet or will it have it's own HP. A shared HP would be interesting perhaps have it where when Carby is out the Master HP increases by 1/2 or 1/3 of it's Max HP and any dmg dealt to either him or Carby is dealt to said HP, When HP reaches 0 both die.

I just think in terms of XI in a sense they were somewhat unbalanced since the SMN could just treat the pet like a scapegoat, it would be nice if in 14 there was a sense of danger for the Arcanist. Perhaps if they don't go the shared HP route they could make it where the closer you are to the pet the more potent the ability is. So if you are at the farthest range and use let's say Carby uses an ability, at the farthest range the potency would be 50%, at midrange 75% and right next to carby the potency would be 100%. With that in mind though of course abilities could be made to negate those effect and have it where the next ability used will have 100% potency regardless of current position in combat. Or even a stance which slowly reduces your MP to increase the potency of your abilities. The longer you have it active the more potent your ability is til you run our of MP.

So many possibilities with this, I hope they have Arcanist rdy for alpha when they release it since it would be interesting to get a feel of what they are going for with that class.

I would like to see a unique implementation of summoners in FFXIV that we haven't seen before. I think what held summoners back so badly in FFXI was the overpowered potential that they could cause damage/healing/buffing/debuffing with their pets without taking any hate. This aspect loaded them down with so many shackles (abilities on steep timers, massive mp drain, limited damage/buff/debuff/healing capabilities) that this benefit was rarely worth it in most situations.

I think if summoner pets were treated as a "spell effect" or a ranged weapon rather than a being that could grab hate or take damage, things would work out more naturally. Pets could be used for sustained positional effects, such as the pet providing an AoE buff to party members in its range, and hate from the pet causing damage would be directed at the arcanist/summoner as though it was a spell cast from a black mage.

Another concept could be something similar to that of Persona, that is, whomever you have selected as your pet changes your characteristics, vulnerabilities and abilities you can perform. It's not unlike a blue mage, but as a trade-off to less flexibility in a chosen ability set, you could switch between sets a lot more smoothly.

Regardless, leaving out the weirdness of the pet taking hate and / or tanking would free up the job to be a full-fledged participant in parties (perhaps taking the role of "spell-slinging bard"), rather than an oddball on the sidelines spending most of their time casting from a limited selection of ineffectual healing spells.

Seven years of playing your White Mage (or Scholar) subjob and getting invites only when no other mage was available probably disagrees with the "overpowered" comment. :P

^^ Indeed.

Honestly, I like what I'm reading. It does seem like they intend a unique pet job. The problem I see:

If they keep to their strict limitation on the number of abilities, this could go poorly. Mages already see a harsh restriction in this respect, while it works well for melee. It would be doubly impairing for a pet job to be limited to such a small pool of abilities.
