You won't be excited. The deadline for Legacy was end-of-May.

If you wanted legacy status you would have been playing and paying since January, where you were guaranteed to get it.

The legacy campaign was meant for people who stuck with se through the low points of the game and contributed to making it better. I am finding it more and more annoying that people are coming back right before 2.0 to quick grab a legacy tag to get the discount. I am glad se proceeded the way they did to weed out stuff like this.

Well, in that case they didn't succeed; in my case, I had 5000 crysta left in my account that would have gone bad by october anyway, so I quickly grabbed legacy although I quit like, a year ago. Never logged in once in the meantiome. That's what smart guys do. Leave the fanboys paying for an unfinished beta, until I will gloriously ride into 2.0 with exactly the same legacy chocobo. Life is unfair.

But hey. You'll be able to tell your grandchildren that you vailantly stuck to a game everybody laughed about. That must be worth something.

P.S.: For you.

But still the little Taru(yes i like the name taru better then Lallafell) inside me wants to experience some FFXIV b4 ver 2.0... If my RL firend wanna join up again now. You will c me ingame again. How long I will last, I cannot promise.

Your entitled to your own opinion and I am not gonna insult you because of it. You actually bought the game before the legacy campaign was launched an you had a right to not want to play, a lot of people didnt. My beef is more with people trying to scam the system and pick the game up now to save a couple bucks. It has nothing to do with being a fanboy but with the fact it's annoying to see people scramble at the last minute to ***** the system. Yea we can sit here and beat the dead cow saying SE brought this on themselves but unlike a lot of other companies today they didn't seek a bailout. Instead they took Responsibility for a crappy product and are compensating people for that product. This doesn't mean compensating people who weren't affected by the lack of a game.

You don't have any beef with the 'scam' of charging people full price for service that isn't worth it? Anyone who pays for XIV pre-2.0 is not 'getting over' by getting a reduced price. There are MMOs out that provide better service for no charge at all...

No one is forcing anyone to sub right now. If you feel its not worth it then don't, its simple as that. Aside from the lack of direction for newbies in the start of the game, I do not feel its terrible. I am sure you remember that FFXIV was F2P for a long time while they fixed it enough so you could play it. It just blows my mind to see the never ending sense of entitlement from a lot of people on these forums. Makes me feel like I am in high school all over again.

I pre-ordered FFXIV CE before 1.0 was released and I was really upset with what I paid for. Eventually I got over it and accepted the offer of playing the game for free for a long time, numerous patches to fix the game and a whole new version given to me (for free). What else could you want? Oh did I mention Legacy benefits? Jeez c'mon guys lets grow up.

Ugh. Well thank you for adding a new reason for new players to start on a fresh server: Avoiding the stuck-up "Legacy" attitude.

Seriously, if new people don't join the game, there'll be no game to play (and your Legacy status will mean a whole lot then, won't it?) and who can blame anyone for wanting a deal? Don't infer they're stuff to weed out when they're the lifeblood of the game you supposedly love so much.

I am starting over as well to play with the same people your accusing me of implying that I am better then them.

Just tired of seeing people try to manipulate the system. Don't you think we have enough of that already?

It has nothing to do with a stuck up legacy attitude but more of people not understanding why they created the legacy program. Why would buying the game and paying the standard subscription like everyone else create less of a player base? That makes absolutely no sense.

What makes no sense is that you think your 90 days of subbing 1.0 is better than someone else's who needs to be "weeded out." Nice welcoming attitude. I'm sure Yoshi really appreciates your "contribution" of scaring away the customers he's trying to attract. Good job.

Wasn't the point of the Legacy program that they need to raise money? And here's someone who's willing to pay for the game. Even if the legacy program is over, you've could have said this:

"Sorry, but your last chance to get the Legacy deal was back in May. However, those who play until the end of 1.0 will get priority into the beta. I hope you'll consider it because I think FFXIV is a swell game."

But you had to go with how glad you were he got "weeded out," and how SE loves you more.

You paid for it. It wasn't worth what you paid for it when you bought it, it wasn't really worth playing even when it was 'free'(even though you paid for it) and whether or not it's worth playing now is arguable. Judging by the population before the rush to get Legacy status, the vast majority thought it wasn't. People keep stressing the fact that there was no sub fee like that's some sort of meaningful excuse. It was like that because it sucked Smiley: rolleyes

Personally I think they should have also granted CE accounts the Legacy upgrade. Perhaps offer previous CE customers the Legacy upgrade when they purchase 6 months or 12 months of 2.0 playtime.

Most companies do it this way. You subscribe for a certain amount up front and get a discount. It makes sense so I'm not certain why SE didn't(yet) go this route, especially when you consider that they haven't really proven their worth. If XIV was in good shape it would be a different story, but locking players into the game before it's reborn just seems like a cashgrab. People should be expected to try and get over on a company who seems to be trying to do the same thing.

Seeing as I have yet to play the game I cannot speak for the quality of it, but with the history of 1.x and the unknown factor of 2.0, I'm not surprised there's no front-load sub option. Probably need to see if the game is worth locking in for 6-12 months.

First month is free. I would imagine that would be enough to decide if it was something you wanted to invest in. TERA did something similar where you got your first month free, but had two months to decide if you wanted to pay in advance. I think they had 3 month, 6 month and annual price packages where the price went down the longer you subbed for.

Something like this would have made more sense. Just give everyone who bought XIV and started a service account prior to 2.0 the bonus of Legacy status.

lol alot of Drama from a simple question :P

Im not mad since I did'nt get Legacy status. It was my choice to buy the CE at release. It was my choice to stop playing then ( after 1 month ). It was my choice to get back into the game last year and played 4-5 months. IT was my choice to stop playing when they announced they needed cash, since newborn baby in house and everything. It was my choice to not resub when Legacy info came out. I just did'nt c the "value" back then. (earlier this year).

But since SE needed cash to finish ARR they gave those willing to pay a little back. But I guess they still need cash... As every company does. Why not let me/others "donate" said sum of money.

Or make us sub for 90 days from now. And give Legacy ? Just some thoughts. This way nobody is taking advantage of the "system" as someone put it above in thread.

If FFXIV v 2.0+++ lives a long life like FFXI has, we will get the opppertunity to get that Chocobo. Like they did with FFXI and its event items.

But anyway it was nice to c my little Lallafell last night. And looking forward to playing with him again later tonight.

Short answer: Bandwagon Syndrome.

It would probably be more obvious if you were more active on these boards, but basically there are a lot of fans here who feel like you are less of a fan because you weren't there to support SE through the tough times. It's kinda like people who like a band and then when the band gets popular they have some resentment toward more recent fans because they weren't around from day one.

I really don't get it because in the end these are the people who you're going to be spending time with in game. Like you said, it was your choice... they don't realize that they chose to endure the hardship and now they feel entitled to something special. I don't really disagree but honestly, if I were one of the few who stuck it out, I'd just be happy to have SE offering something to entice people to stick around more than a month or two like the first go 'round.

The lack of Legacy option for new players probably won't chase anyone away, but allowing new players this option would almost certainly encourage more people to play.

Lol I have been stalking this forum for a long time ( and many others ). I do not feel the need to prove my fandom to FF. But my current life situation was no game time. and low income, hence why I did not pay nor played.
But now is another situation, more income, more game time. And as you said urself, let "new" and old returning players get this option. Would only help the game in the long run.

I only hope the ppl with Legacy status in ver 2.0 do not become a cocky band of wannabe pro's. ( sadly some will )

A lot of people on both sides are quite wrong about Legacy. It is a limited time offer, which is like almost every other digital sales nowadays, MMO or just pure digital sales. RIFT had Founder club for instance, then you got Steam sales for another example and even EA (who talked big about no big discount because it lower value of the industry, only to have massive sale few weeks later...). It is neither "weeding out" players nor it is "unfair", it's common practice. Also there are indeed bulk discount separately from legacy, for example the 90 - 180 days (that saved somewhere like 10-15%) previously before they took them down due to 1.0 closing down soon. In 2.0 they probably have 1 year sub with better discount too. And despite Massive Steam sales being very profitable, they only have it like 3 times a year (Summer, Halloween and Christmas), they wouldn't do it every single day because someone ask them so, nor would it help them in the long run like some people here would believe.

I googled Gobbue Quest, got the lodestone page saying can only be obtained before ver 2.00 release. I walk out to find the npc... Nope nothing.. I get frustrated, look everywhere on the right coordinates, nothing. I c another player I ask where he is, he replies he is gone now. And tells me he disapeared after last patch... frack me sideways, I open lodestone patch updates. And voila there it was saying going away after latest patch.

Well well , we can't always get what we want. lol :D

Just got this today.
Thank you for playing FINAL FANTASY XIV.

It is our pleasure to inform you that you have qualified for the FINAL FANTASY XIV Legacy Campaign, and are now recognized as a Legacy member.

We look forward to your ongoing patronage as the game continues its evolution towards version 2.0.

Been playing off and on since release, and paying since April. I signed up for 90 day pay but something went wrong and stopped my payments before could get qualified for Legacy. I quickly restarted payments in Aug so it paid for Aug. and Sept. which got me this.

I've been reading that over about the "start" of beta. I think the one nagging issue is that if they stop collecting subscriptions prior to that so it cuts off late attempts to qualify. What if the multiple alpha tests delay the official kickoff of the official notification of the start of the beta test by a month or two, that really doesn't matter since they stopped collecting subscriptions at the start of November.

That's what I was thinking too, but if they end up pushing things back, they may not stop collecting. Plus, it sounded like you just have to be billed three times, not necessarily go through each month. Perhaps if you subscribe now, and pay up three times, you might be able to get in the promo in the nick of time. Either way, I plan on playing it anyways. Just came back a couple days ago since life has been hectic. To be honest, I quit playing after a month because the game just wasn't playable and life took a nasty turn for me on top of that. I had to turn the graphics down to the point it looked like FFXI, but worse. lol Had some friends that jumped on from FFXI - Carbuncle that stopped playing as well. From what I could tell at least. lol

I started in April. They then announced the Legacy and regardless if I play this for the long run i decided that the benefit would be worth me paying for 3 months, even if I didn't play the whole time. Since I was going to come close to the deadline, free month ended in May, June, July, Aug (end of it) I decided that I didn't want to take the chance so I got the 90day sub. I did that in June and got the Legacy Sticker in a few days. So as Cloudcroft said:

You are correct. However, how would you NOW pay for 3 months? They removed the 90day sub, didn't they? If so, how else would you do it?

I hope they give a discount price for mass subs fir new members and people that didn't get legacy, it would help out SE and FFXIV tremendously.

I would like to question the last thing you said about people with Legacy becoming cocky. Anyone who thinks they are hot stuff because they have a Legacy Sticker is a moron. Sure, I will 100% show off my Jolly Green Giant and I will have to answer the question, "where did you get that chocobo?" but other than that, nothing sets us up to be better than anyone else. In fact the chocobo is the only thing that would show we have Legacy. I hope someone says they are better than a noob cause they have Legacy so we can all laugh at them.

I guess my point is, what would be the point of being that way? AND we should all band together to separate the cocky legacy people from the non-cocky and show them we are better than they.

You are correct. However, how would you NOW pay for 3 months? They removed the 90day sub, didn't they? If so, how else would you do it?

I hope they give a discount price for mass subs fir new members and people that didn't get legacy, it would help out SE and FFXIV tremendously.

You sign up for a monthly basis. Provided beta doesn't start in October, I personally will have paid for three consecutive months at that point. I don't think this neccesarily means we need to have paid for a 90 day sub. Simply subbed for 90 consecutive days.

Right, 3 months paid. I did the 90 because I was worried I wasn't going to get it. The site says before the beta. I bet if you started on July 31 and Prior that would take you to October 31 and you would have paid for 3 consecutive months. I hope you can get it and anyone else that wanted it. Sorry to those that missed out.

SE is counting Oct for certain. I signed up Jul 6 to start paying, figuring I had already missed out on Legacy status. When I logged in tonight, I had the Legacy Icon on the character select screen. I also checked my account page and it shows I was awarded Legacy status this billing cycle. Next payment due shows Oct 6.

That was a nice "Oh, nice little bonus I didn't expect." of them.

Wait... who's laughing again? Because you converted 50 REAL dollars into 5000 FAKE dollars.

Legacy isn't about "playing," it's about paying to keep the servers on. So thanks for paying so that I could play!

And this, my friends, is where the "Legacy Players are just plain better" attitude comes from. If we have to suffer your chides for our "stupidity for paying for a beta" then you have to suffer our "You noobs aren't fit to wash my chocobo," disdain.

In all honesty, 1.0 isn't remotely close to a beta for 2.0, as it's not even the same client and for the most part, we will all be noobs come 2.0 with all the zone changes, ability adjustments and new content. Anyone currently playing 1.0 is enjoying it, and paying for the development of the game you hope 2.0 will become.

But I'm still not going to let you join my LS without proving your legacy status you ****ing noobs. /sarcasm

And if no one comes to play 2.0 because they think they're going to have to put up with this attitude, then your "investment" would have been for nothing but a chocobo you can't ride because the game shut down.

Seriously... what was the point in saving a game you're going to doom by chasing away all the new players the game needs to survive? It's like you saved an orphanage that was about to close down and then burned it down because you don't want any f^&king orphans to move in.

I don't understand this at all...

Im not a new player !!! I was in Alpha, then beta, then release, went away some, got back in middle of 2011 went away when payment came. But then again I can't show of my chocobo to prove im a FFXIV vet. And honestly if u feel like u need to prove something, ur just a big douche, its fun times ingame that counts not that you payed money, we all support SE by simply playing the game !!!!!! And we need new players for this ;)

And if some LS's seriously demands Legacy I will laugh my *** off. And btw I have nice big LS anyways, with nice ppl in it :D Error13001 Linkshell FTW!!!

Here's the kicker: People like you and me have probably given more to SE than a typical Legacy player has.

Think about it. I spent $90 on a pre-ordered CE. If you weren't in the States, you paid at least that much if not much more (they were like $120-130 in Australia?).

That's more than what 3 Legacy players on Buddy Passes combined would have had to have spent.

But, I don't get a fancy bird with an "SE Loves Me More" bumper sticker (that's alright I don't really want one). What's more, I think I have a level head about welcoming new players because the game is definitely dead without them.

And yet, I'm faced with being called an undeserving n00b for not getting the Legacy "gold star" even though I've probably contributed more to keeping FF14 alive monetarily than half the Legacy players out there. And I know I'm not the only one in this boat. So it's not only the new players that the game needs to survive that are getting trashed by this, but also the players who've actually put down more money than those discount subscribers ever did through their initial purchase.

That said, there's nothing wrong with discount subscribers having a good time. I just don't think anyone deserves to be put down over when and how much they've paid for the game. I'm just pointing this out because the idea that Legacy players have all contributed more than anyone else is demonstrably false, and it's ultimately meaningless if you just want to chase people out of the game (which is starving for players) with it.

The bottom line is, everything has to come together for FFXIV to work. The game has to be great, but the players have to be welcoming too, because without new blood, it's all over. To those of you who have it, have fun with your Legacy status, but don't expect me to suck you off because of it.

Yeah, it was a joke guys, geeeezzzzz. That's why I put in the /sarcasm tag...

There will be full legacy LS's for sure, since many people I know in0game are already in established LS's, but I doubt many of them would be exclusive to Legacy players.

I was just saying that, the REASON current players are salty is we've been dealing with people in forums insulting our gaming decision for over 2 years. Maybe we should drop the arguing about stupid sh*t and agree that we'll give 2.0 a chance and continue the fight after release...
