I'm not sure those selected were paying only to play alpha...

Lol 100Mbps. My max connection is 6... Stupid apartment complex only allows me to sign up for AT&T DSL (not U-verse).

No, but the majority aren't paying to play 1.0 so...

Like I said though it's not surprising. Perhaps the beta will be open to anyone.

Ignoring the obvious, why am I not surprised? It's not like people would have been playing FFXIV prior to Alpha testing or any-..oh.

I wouldn't be surprised if 'active FINAL FANTASY XIV account' is actually referring to having an active Final Fantasy XIV 'service account'. In other words, an activated FFXIV serial associated with your account. This would be an important distinction, since you can have an active Final Fantasy 'service' account without actually having any paid options.

It will be.

On top of that, the free trial period will begin again at the end of September 30, 2012.

Free trial starts in a month? That leaves them a month to complete their alpha and beta tests and make adjustments on feedback... wut do?

*EDIT*
I guess you're talking about 1.0 going back to no sub. I won't be starting back up until 2.0 so I guess I was thinking you were talking about that for some reason. The roadmap needs an update methinks.

If your active, your free as of 9/30.
Last server save is 11/1. (nothing saved past this point)
Servers shutdown 11/11.
They MAY keep them open.
Sometime in Nov phase1 alpha stress test starts in japan with them ramping up the hours its open and countries starting at phase 2.
once alpha is done beta launches for ps3/pc at same time ( roughly jan 18th)

One could only hope they don't ban me since I put in my app a link to my addon site lol... Yoshi and the dev team have my source code though; so not too concerned :)

Well I guess that's one way for SE to address their latency issues.

I've tracked xiv's usage; its around 3-10kb/second. Not sure why they want it like that but maybe they are changing the packet system; since gw2/gw1 used upwards of 40-50.

I think wow even used 30 or so; can't remember on that. o.O

If I were to guess, it's so that you can download and install the game in a reasonable amount of time. I believe last time these so called "alpha tests" were only performed for a few hours before being shut down. There's no point in applying if your slowpoke connection will make you miss the whole test.

If you have a cheap 3 mbps connection, it would take almost 5 hours to download 6 GB. On a 100 mbps connection, you'd be done in 8 minutes.

To be honest, I think it's too much to ask for people to have insanely high internet connection speeds. It's bad enough that people have had to wait over 2 years to get a decent game finally.

If the first test was any indicator, the lucky testers will have plenty of time to download or update their client. People back then were reporting downloads of 36+ hours (more due to the crappy P2P setup and not their connection speed) and they still had plenty of time to get in to enjoy the massive "ZOMG I can't move, can anyone else move"? Hob spamfest. People learned quickly that you had to keep checking frequently for client updates and start them early... those who didn't break NDA and torrent them anyway Smiley: laugh

Average internet speed in UK is 8 to 16 mbps. I get about 14 mbps. Waiting for new BT infinity to reach my area, but that will only take me to around 40 mbps. Some people can get 50 mbps, and some very lucky people 100 mbps.

I have a 30mb/s speed, so should be enough (seems to be for everything else lol). My question though, is that I have 2 accounts under one SE account (Wife's account) and wonder if having those will allow us to play together or not. I am surprised that it doesn't allow for input of multiple systems, as I would have liked to have put in the specs for the laptop as well so they can see I'd be testing on 2 platforms for them.

I won't have my computer in time for the Alpha, but I didn't think this post deserved a new thread. My maximum connection speed is 6 Mbps. Is that going to be a problem running this game, or should I be fine? Thank you in advance.

For the release game it won't be an issue, they are just shooting for the stars with max for Alpha.

Good to know. I've been kind of doubtful about it, especially since my last apartment had a 50Mbps connection.

MMOs generally only require KBs of data with the exception of patches... if your MMO is using MBs you might want a new anti-virus program. Even most FPS PC games don't require anything more than 2MB/s connection... it's usually latency ((PS I may have used the wrong capitals.. the whole MBs Bits Bytes thing ****** me off when it comes to internet speed)

Haha I understand man. I typed and retyped the Mbps 3 times before I just stuck with it.
