LOL during the presentation people in the alpha kept finding Yoshi and following him around.

On another note, he showed crafting and gathering. They look much more simple due to the use of the recipe book and they utilize the existing action bar instead of the current system which uses its own popup window. When you select a recipe from the book it shows what materials are required and how many of each you currently have in inventory. It is a much simplified flow.

There also appears to be some chain exp while crafting or gathering for using abilities in a certain way.

Yoshi took us around what appeared to be mostly Gridania. There was lots of variety in the landscape hills, forts, caves, farms all within a smaller area. It id hard to describe but it looked more unique than the current landscapes.

I don't understand a word they are saying, but I just love seeing the amount of passion in their tone/expressions about 2.0

Really gives one hope :)

I thought that was the development team playing, not alpha testers?

Have a quick question, sorry if its been covered before.

Has there been any word if you can change your starting city allegiance in 2.0? If that is indeed Gridania in the video, I would have started there no question. Currently it was too much of a maze and so dark! Not to mention a ghost town at this point in the game.

If your character in your sig is your only one; it can be redone in 30 minutes ^^ I'll even help you; though I'm on Excalibur; but I'll even start a new character on your server if you need just to buddy up :) I'm Gridanian all the way. :D

You can "start" anywhere in 1.0 but your allegiance you can choose later. Not sure how that affects main story line; imho grid was the best one in 1.0.

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

I was quite happy I picked Gridania for the story and such... as for the area, I agree that it is a little dark and the town is a bit of a pain to navigate (although other towns have multiple levels that **** me off when the wiki just gives a coordinate and not which level it is on). I am super happy with how they have re-done the area, although I am sure they haven't put weather effects in to the Alpha yet (or at least have them off at the moment), so I am sure it will be dark and raining at some point :P

Someday soon my friends, this ride will come to and end, and we can't just get in line again.

Hehe, thanks for the replies. It's probably not the best time to be starting out in FFXIV, but I've been having a lot of fun so far. :)

I figured I wouldn't get through much story at this point and just try to level up certain jobs for a bit of a head start when 2.0 rolls out. Definitely thinking of restarting in Grid now, while I'm still young...Decisions, decisions...

P.S. That nightmare I had last night was really awesome!
