When service begins for A Realm Reborn we'll be creating new worlds for new players. For a certain amount of time, existing users will be unable to move. (This is the information we received, but we'll be trying to get clarification on this later today)

Before we finalize details for current players wishing to transfer, we'll need to consider how we'd want to handle returning players. We'll be looking at the options with regard to the Beta Test conditions.

Some of you have been asking about the bullet point we mentioned during the FINAL FANTASY 25th Anniversary Event Special Talk Session about “improving the amount of freedom of world transfers” -- this meant that we will be setting up a world transfer service similar to FFXI.

I don't mind waiting before given the chance to move to a regional server, but I don't want to be charged to do it after the fact. All accounts created prior to ARR should have the option of doing a free, one-time world transfer for all characters made before ARR launches.

Sorry, to clarify, our post is specifically answering a question about users wanting to change after they've chosen new servers. We're not saying existing players will remain on current servers until a time that is designated for people to move.

Hopefully that clears that up!

Good news, and a great start at enticing new players.

I honestly thought this had been confirmed already, but it might just have been me reading too much into things I suppose. Either way though good info and good news for those who want everyone to start fresh on their server.

It was hinted at often, but I don't recall this ever being said as plainly. It was also unconfirmed if current players would be able to select those servers, since everyone will be given the option of which server to select.

From this, it looks like players will be able to server change to them later, but at the start they will be for new players only. I hope new players select other servers as well though, or I'll be stuck with the same jaded players we currently have :D

All that reads to me is: old farts, will stay together like in a retirement home on there respective servers, while the green horns will have the option to reinvent the wheel. Or join the old timers and the talk "back in my day when dirt was invented"....

Seriously though I'll be making a new character come 2.0 same server as my main so i can feed my self gil, and make my own armor...

What would be the point in making new servers specifically for new players if thhey allow current players to transfer to them too? That defeats the purpose

The purpose of new servers for new players is to keep veterans from monopolizing certain gear or items and putting a strain on the new population trying to acquire them. The fact that they're reducing the amount of gil in circulation on old servers coupled with the(expected) increase in populations on new servers should balance each other out. I'm guessing that is the reason they have a waiting period.

What Filth said, this makes great sense, as there is such a ridiculous level of inflation that even the gil digit chance is not enough to stop the item monopoly.

Even now, for a new player to start they will be unable to aqcuire low level gear for a decent price. In most cases, anything under 41 is MORE expensive than 41-50 gear. This is because people buy the 41-50 gear constantly for spiritbonding, so it's a competitive market for crafters.

If they allowed lower level gear to become higher level materia, this might be fixed as well though...

Hopefully that waiting period is no less than a year.

Well that won't be happening. It'll probably be like 3 months. Regardless, it's almost a guarantee that they'll want server transfers sooner rather then later. If the game does well, servers will be crowed. If it does poorly, they'll want to condense them.

I'm not sure why this would turn you off to the game. SE will probably be checking distribution of job and class levels across the servers before they make the decision(just speculation, but it would make sense). Even if it did happen fairly early, at worst, players would bring tons of the more rare items over to sell and end up flooding the market and creating a bit of equilibrium anyway.

Just out of curiosity, why does it bother you so much?

It would be uncharacteristic of Yoshi to offer fresh start servers and "Yoink!" it away after a few months. Even if the game tanks, they could consolidate fresh start servers with other fresh start servers.

I think we'd be looking at a full expansion development cycle at least before they allow people to freely transfer to them to give enough time to reach equilibrium with the other servers (if FFXI is any guide, it would be about a year and a half). The popularity (and some would say the whole point) of these fresh start servers is precisely so players, old and new, aren't lorded over by people already at the "finish line." Why ruin that by cutting it short and letting people with 60 (assuming they raise the cap) in every craft take over the economy in a few short months? It would infuriate the entire population of those servers!

I disagree. A few months is plenty of time if enough new players join.

You are ignoring the fact that the current playing population is VERY low. The number of those people who are ludicrously rich is even lower. It won't be that big of a deal.

For comparison, The most money I've had is about 4 million. I have about 2 million now, and usually have around 500k. These numbers are low by FFXI standards, and these numbers are pretty standard throughout my ls and friends.

Of course, there are people with 50-100 million, but they are a minority.
