The "Cross hot bar " makes me think of the "Cross Media Bar" that the Playstation 3 uses as it's main UI system control. Maybe a variation on that. I don't mind using a keyboard and mouse for most MMO's , but for some reason I can't stand them in either FFXI or FFXIV. Nothing like being able to kick back on the couch with a controller and not get pains in my hands and wrists after a few hours of playing.
Amen, I am currently playing XIV on my 55" LCD with surround sound. Being able to chill on the couch with my x360 controller makes it a great experience. I don't want to confine myself to keyboard and mouse. Although I did that with Mass Effect (keyboard on lap, mouse on couch) and it worked quite well, it's not optimal. I think it will be impressive if Square-Enix can really pull off a single version (pc) being able to use controller and mouse/keyboard EFFECTIVELY because ultimately they require two entirely different methods of interfacing with the game. I'm excited to see what is in store.
Edit: ...and the reason you can't stand a keyboard/mouse in FFXI/XIV is because those games are not designed with the western mmo control scheme in mind. They are set up like any other 3rd person action game on the planet (including all offline FF games) and because of that a controller is the best way to play. You wouldn't play gears of war, prince of persia, arkham asylum, etc with a keyboard/mouse would you? So I can't understand why the word "MMO" makes developers use that terrible control scheme found in WoW, Lotro, SWTOR, etc. I just really hope that XIV 2.0 allows us to have the option to switch between western/eastern (or offline game) control schemes by selecting controller or keyboard/mouse. The entire Universe to the furthest Galaxy, we are told, is no more than a closed electron existing as part of a much bigger Universe we can never see. And that Universe is only an elementary particle in a still grander Universe. An infinite regression, up and down. - Carl Sagan
