I don't know if it has been posted yet but figured a lot of people would be interested in this :)
If its a double post I apologize!

FINAL FANTASY XIV : A Realm Reborn Alpha Test NA Registration.

#2FilthMcNasty, Posted: Oct 06 2012 at 11:14 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Applications will only be accepted for people with active XIV service accounts. So I guess the whole "We will prioritize current subscribers" was thrown out the window and only current subscribers can even apply.

Yeah I guess its a stress test, with very limited functions and gameplay. At this point, it is basically strictly testing the waters which would make sense as to why they have specifics. Maybe it will change! Guess we'll see!

This is only for the alpha test. They will allow people without paid subscriptions to apply to the beta test whenever that application goes live.

Honestly think its a good move considering most people playing right now are aware of ARR, that it is a completely new game more or less and that this would be alpha. I've seen too many people confused about what is what where and when to be surprised to see new people jump into alpha thinking it is the new game released, quit and start crying again.

As long as they take in others further down the development process and still consider feedback and adapt accordingly in beta phase I don't really see this being a bad thing.
#6FilthMcNasty, Posted: Oct 08 2012 at 5:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) No, the point of an alpha test is to gather information and make necessary adjustments to the servers and the game to polish it for release. If people cared about the NDA the client wouldn't be made available through torrent; a direct violation both by those who host and those who download the client. If people were upholding the NDA then a little more than half of the original wave of alpha would have been able to play the game due to the incredibly high download times.

I don't think that anyone or everyone is entitled to play the alpha, but if only those who currently subscribe are eligible then why make the distinction anyway?

No it isn't, and you clearly don't have a clue what you're talking about.

An alpha is the very shaky beginning stages where you're lucky if the damned thing even runs much less run well. It isn't a beta and never will be.

Also going to be broken into 4 phases, strictly Japan for the first part.

Quote:
... Rather than looking at the actual gameplay, we’ll be asking players to cooperate with the dev team in things like server stress tests, as well as testing other fundamental mechanics of the game. You will be required to sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement), and the experience will be a far cry from playing the finished product. Available characters, classes, levels, and game content itself will be limited, and testers are accepted strictly on a volunteer basis. Keep those details in mind when you sign up.

The alpha test will be broken up into four phases, each of which will consist of multiple cycles of “test and tweak.” While we have no intention of shutting out our overseas players, the alpha test will initially be restricted to Japanese residents only until we reach Phase 2 or so.

The reason being that with our entire dev ream stationed here in Japan, we would be unable to swiftly respond to unexpected server crashes or other critical issues if we left the alpha test servers running 24/7. Once we’ve confirmed that the servers are sufficiently stable, we’ll open the alpha test to players outside of Japan.

Think of the alpha test up until Phase 2 as a preparation period that allows us to put in place the structure necessary to test and receive feedback on a global scale—that being our ultimate goal. Recruitment for alpha testers, on the other hand, will take place simultaneously in all regions, so if you think you’re up to the task we’d love to have you on board!

The purpose of the tests are to monitor server stability and to gather information and get feedback about how well systems are running. Generally what you said is true, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the purpose of the tests.

As stated above by SE themselves, any testing that reaches across the shores will already be stable so aside from the stated 'minor tweaks', all you're really doing is debugging and providing feedback...

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

Who knows... maybe they'll open it up to anyone with a SE ID in the future. I'd be disappointed if I weren't totally expecting this to happen Smiley: laugh

The point of an alpha test is it's extremely restricted with the NDA. I never know that all people are entitled to alpha test.
