Saw their financial report recently.

This game is going to cost vastly more than SWTOR with how many staff they have working on it and how long it's been in development.

From their report it seems they are banking on the chinese market being a big earner.

This is one of the reasons I am pushing for support of this game so adamantly. I feel almost as if the fate of Square-Enix hinges on the success of this astronomically costly production. If it fails like XIV did, that spells major trouble for the company.

Consider EA never publicly stated how much SWTOR cost (they gave their own "estimation" as $200m and then said it's hard to estimate on the cost...), you can't be sure. Some independent analyst even estimated SWTOR as $500m, but that's probably too exaggerated.

Read up on what's going on in China the past month or two (worst anti-foreigner protests in China since they opened up to foreign investment after the Communist takeover in 1949). The protests may have ended but Japanese car sales are down 50%, dealerships are offering a patriotic discount for Chinese to turn in their Japanese car and get a big discount on a Chinese-made car or a European-made car. A bunch of Japanese automakers outright pulled out of some car show in China recently. SE will have to revise their strategy. They can't bank on China anymore because of the current geopolitical tensions.

They aren't going to bank ****, if the Diaoyu Dao situation keeps going as it is.
