Server Preference and WhyFollow

So I've been grinding my teeth the past several months over at the Lodestone Forums seeing as how I cannot contribute there because I'm one of those improbable ps3ers... (end of rant).

A particular topic stuck out to me amongst the myriad of hair option, White Raven and Legacy threads.

Isolated servers. i.e. JP servers, NA servers and EU servers. These will be options and possibly even the standard option vs. whatever universal servers remain and/or created.

My question is do you like or prefer this (hopefully) segregated option? Why or why not?

I personally enjoy international servers. Tends to have a 'City that Never Sleeps' vibe I greatly enjoy. My worry is selecting a universal server and it winds up lacking sufficient peak times for any given region. Thus having to pay, most likely, to switch servers.

I guess I'm simply trying to check the temperature of forum goers to help decide my ultimate decision.

I think the options are going to be JP, US, EU. That's it. There will be no 'universal server'.

Even the servers existing now, which you would consider international, are for the purposes of SE's definition, JP since they are located in Japan.

Since existing characters cannot transfer - probably for a number of months - its something you get to chew on until summer 2013 or later.

Well that's mildly depressing.

I think there may be a misunderstand either on my part or everyone else's but they are not implementing "language-only" servers. They are making more data centers; so you can choose a "data-center" closest to you.

The end result may be that more NA play on one server than another however they may be going cloud based. (based on a interview I had). GW2 does it very well in that really there is no "separate server" except for WvWvW. You can party with anyone, anytime from anyplace for PvE and you both seamlessly play together even though your on different servers.

It's just hearsay on my part but based on the discussion it's something they've been looking at after 2.0 at the very least.

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

I truly hope this is my misunderstanding. This would be a 'perfect world' so to speak.

I like "international" servers because it means if you work weird hours, you're not locked out of gameplay. I get home at 2EST, smack dab in the middle of EU prime time, so if I log on but I'm in a specific "EST/NA" server, I'm all alone. (On the other hand, PST based linkshells want to start their events at 10PM my time, which just doesn't work. )

Elionara is correct. The servers are not segregated by language. They will be separated only by geographic location and anybody speaking any language can join any server. The reason for the servers in different locations throughout the world is to minimize the lag between client and server. They are working under the assumption the people will choose the server located closest to them when they choose which server to join the first time they log into ARR. they've already said they will allow us to choose which server to join, but have also said that they won't allow characters to move to brand new servers. Maybe they'll have some of the existing worlds moved to different regions and not just keep all the existing worlds in Japan. They haven't gone into specifics yet. The brand new worlds are saved for all the new characters in order to make it easier to transition into the new game and not have overwhelming price gaps between new and old players.

I'm waiting for PS3 too OP, don't feel left out.

I also work from 3:30pm to 12:30am. I'm probably going to be looking at an Oceania type server so I can play with Aussies, Kiwis, and JPs.

Does anyone here have any knowledge about which server location would be best for countries in the middle east? The obvious option would be EU but it doesn't always work logically.
